Accordingly, traders in Dak Nong province are purchasing coffee at 96,400 VND/kg. No change compared to yesterday.

Similarly, coffee price in Dak Lak province is 96,500 VND/kg, up 200 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Coffee prices in Gia Lai province increased by VND100/kg compared to yesterday and were traded at VND96,400/kg.

In Lam Dong province, coffee prices increased by VND200/kg compared to yesterday and are at VND96,000/kg.

Domestic coffee prices are currently at 96,000 - 96,500 VND/kg, recording a slight increase compared to the beginning of last week. However, the price increase is making farmers hesitate: should they sell to prepare for the new harvest, or continue to hold on to their goods, waiting for prices to increase even more?

This is a difficult question, because the coffee market is unpredictable. Although the global supply will be about 1 million bags (each bag weighs 60 kg) surplus at the end of the 2023-2024 crop year, coffee prices will still increase sharply and peak in February 2025. This fluctuation shows that supply and demand are no longer the only factors affecting prices.

Another notable point last week was Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Brazil. During the trip, the Prime Minister proposed building a joint coffee brand between Vietnam and Brazil to enhance the position and value of coffee products in the global market.

Pepper prices increased slightly

Pepper prices today in key growing areas increased slightly compared to yesterday. Thereby, the domestic pepper price level is from 140,000 VND/kg to 142,000 VND/kg.

In addition, pepper price today in Binh Phuoc increased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently at 141,000 VND/kg.

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on July 7 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price fell sharply compared to yesterday at $7,385/ton (down 2.11%). In addition, Muntok white pepper price increased slightly compared to yesterday at $10,167/ton (down 0.2%).

Brazilian ASTA black pepper price increased slightly compared to yesterday at 6,250 USD/ton (up 3.2%).

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price decreased slightly compared to yesterday, currently at 8,900 USD/ton (down 1.11%). In addition, the country's ASTA white pepper price remained unchanged compared to yesterday, reaching 11,750 USD/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam increased sharply compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,440 USD/ton (up 3.11%); 550 gr/l reached 6,570 USD/ton (up 3.04%).

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price increased sharply compared to yesterday, reaching 9,150 USD/ton (up 2.19%).

In the world market, pepper prices are still under great pressure due to the strong USD, geopolitical tensions and high transportation costs.

In the long term, supply from Indonesia and Brazil will be the key factors affecting price trends. Indonesia is expected to start harvesting in July, while Brazil will enter its harvest season in the middle of this year. If supply from these two countries increases sharply, global pepper prices may continue to be under pressure.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), domestic pepper prices are currently low because people and speculators continue to hold onto goods in the expectation that prices will recover more strongly in the third and fourth quarters.

The hoarding mentality causes a short-term decrease in supply to the market, creating temporary scarcity in the country.
