Spring rice harvest in Cam Giang commune. |
The southern communes of the province have basically completed the harvest since the end of June and are taking care of the crop seedlings, while at this time, the northern communes are entering the peak harvest season. In the communes of Bang Thanh, Nghia Ta or Cam Giang, Phu Thong... in all the fields, everywhere is the image of people busy harvesting rice. Trucks carrying full bags of rice following each other home have become a familiar scene, signaling a bumper harvest season.
Before the merger, the entire Bac Kan province (old) cultivated more than 8,000 hectares of spring rice, of which about 1,500 hectares used high-quality rice varieties such as: Japonica, QR1, HT1, Ha Giang upland rice... Of these, about 210 hectares of quality rice were produced and sold through cooperatives, cooperative groups, agents and individuals. |
However, not all localities were lucky enough to have a favorable harvest. Due to the impact of prolonged heavy rains in May and June, many spring rice areas in the communes of Thuong Minh, Vinh Thong, Phu Thong, Na Ri... were flooded, rice fell down, causing productivity in some places to decrease significantly.
In fact, in many communes, high-quality rice varieties continue to affirm their strengths and values. Among them, rice varieties such as Japonica, QR1, HT1… have shown outstanding results.
Organic rice growing areas in Yen Phong commune mainly use Japonica rice varieties. |
Communes: Yen Phong, Nghia Ta, Phu Thong, Cam Giang (the province's key agricultural production areas before the merger)... have been and are forming concentrated commercial rice production areas. Some areas are also produced in an organic direction, linked with cooperatives and cooperative groups in the production and consumption stages of products.
The Yen Phong Commune Organic Rice Production Cooperative is one such example. Formed in 2021, this cooperative currently has more than 16 hectares of rice certified for organic production, mainly using Japonica and Bao Thai varieties.
Thanks to strict compliance with the production process from soil treatment, fertilization, care to harvesting, the rice products of this cooperative are consumed smoothly and well received by the market.
People in the northern province urgently harvest spring rice. |
Ms. Hoang Thi Chinh, a member of the Yen Phong Organic Rice Production Cooperative, shared: The cooperative has expanded its production links to about 30 hectares of organic rice, mainly Japonica rice. We strictly follow the technical process from land preparation to care. Thanks to that, after harvesting, paddy is sold at 12,000 VND/kg, rice is sold at 22,000 VND/kg, higher than conventional rice varieties. The cooperative has regular orders from the provinces.
Mr. Ha Cat Chan in Na Ngang village (Cam Giang commune) was stirring rice in the yard while happily chatting: The weather was dry at the beginning of the spring crop, and there was a long rain in the middle of the crop, but fortunately my family's rice fields were not affected much. My family planted more than 2,000m² of Japonica rice, the harvested rice grains were firm and even, and sold for a higher price than other varieties.
Mr. Ha Cat Chan in Na Ngang village, Cam Giang commune, is excited because this crop has a good rice yield. |
The spring crop is coming to an end, giving way to the next crop with its continued expectations. In the sunny fields, people are busy harvesting, their bright smiles signaling an efficient and sustainable agricultural development.
