Currently, Thai Nguyen has over 6,000 hectares of tea meeting VietGAP standards. |
In order to encourage tea growers to invest in "clean" production, in recent years, the province has implemented many policies and brought about practical results.
Mr. Nguyen Ta, Head of the Provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, said: Support policies on training, propaganda, new tea varieties; organic and biological fertilizers; VietGAP and organic certification; support for mechanization, application of water-saving irrigation systems in production and tea processing and preparation equipment... have helped raise awareness of the importance of safe production for tea growers. Thanks to that, up to now, Thai Nguyen has had over 6,000 hectares of tea certified to meet VietGAP and organic standards.
In fact, tea products meeting VietGAP and organic standards are consumed quite favorably. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, one of the tea producers following VietGAP standards in Tien Phong tea village, Van Han commune, shared: Since 2014, my family has started producing nearly 1 hectare of tea following VietGAP standards; thanks to that, the selling price has doubled compared to before. Currently, tea is sold for 250-300 thousand VND/kg of dried buds.
It can be affirmed that “clean” production not only brings economic efficiency but also contributes to protecting the environment and the health of both producers and consumers. However, the area of tea recognized as meeting VietGAP and organic standards in Thai Nguyen is still quite small. In the past 3 years, each year Thai Nguyen has had about 500 hectares of tea newly certified to meet VietGAP standards.
Safe tea production will help the product achieve quality and meet OCOP standards. Thai Nguyen currently has 195 tea products meeting OCOP standards from 3 to 5 stars. |
The whole province currently has only 120 hectares meeting organic standards. Meanwhile, not only domestic consumers but also the world market have very strict requirements on the safety of tea products.
Therefore, promoting tea production that meets VietGAP, organic and international safety standards needs to be implemented more drastically by authorities and people.
The immediate goal is to improve the quality of concentrated tea production areas in the direction of promoting safe tea production applying VietGAP and organic standards, applying proactive and water-saving irrigation technology in production to improve product quality and value.
To do this, the province should continue to review land funds, manage and protect land areas for tea growing purposes, and plan safe tea production areas in particular.
Along with that is building a safe tea production model according to VietGAP standards, organic standards and world safety standards on a larger scale. In particular, focusing on building safe tea material production areas that meet organic standards, limiting the use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, applying GAP processes from production to final product processing...
In particular, the province needs to have mechanisms and policies to attract more capable enterprises to invest in production, processing and consumption to expand scale, create a large quantity of safe tea products, and meet export needs to demanding markets around the world...
