(HQ Online) - Speaking with Customs Magazine, a representative of the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch said that after a landslide occurred in some areas on National Highway 8A to Cau Treo International Border Gate, road construction units actively handled the situation, and by this morning the affected areas had been reopened.

According to information, at around 10pm on February 25, National Highway 8A, the section at the girl's waist (Km 82+300) suffered a serious landslide due to heavy rain. The amount of rock and soil that fell down blocked the road with a volume of up to 1,000 m3, causing traffic to be completely paralyzed.

After the landslide, the authorities coordinated with Project Management Board 4 (Vietnam Road Administration) - the investor of the project "Investment in construction of the renovation and upgrading of National Highway 8A" to send forces to regulate traffic and place warning signs.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Son, Deputy Head of the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch ( Ha Tinh Customs Department), said that although many sections of National Highway 8A were eroded, making traffic difficult, all import-export and customs clearance activities at the border gate were still taking place normally. Information up to now has been released by the authorities to clear the landslide areas so that traffic can pass smoothly.

National Highway 8A is frequently subject to landslides, especially traffic on the Lao side since the landslide occurred in August 2023, which has not been handled or resolved by Lao authorities, causing traffic difficulties. This also leads to many businesses not choosing to carry out import and export procedures through Cau Treo international border gate. Therefore, the rate of goods cleared through Cau Treo international border gate has decreased sharply since the end of 2023, Mr. Nguyen Tien Son added.
