Be patient enough and the trash will bloom.

With sunshine, flowers will bloom, and with perseverance, trash can also bloom and bear sweet fruit. Did you know that in addition to reducing waste to protect the environment, we also have another way, which is to create a second life for trash?

The story of Ms. Le Thi Mui is an inspiring story of a person who persistently pursues her beliefs. For a long time, her personal page name Mui Thi Le has become extremely familiar to the community of nearly 17,000 people who are passionate about growing plants and pursuing the journey of caring for an organic garden from waste.

The road is not paved with roses

Born in 1979, living in Hanoi , with a happy family and a stable job, Ms. Le Thi Mui is always concerned about the future of the next generation and the social responsibility that a person must have.

During the period of social isolation to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms. Mui grew clean vegetables for her family. However, buying fertilizers and nutritious soil at that time was not easy, plus the fact that her family had to throw away a large amount of waste from leftover food and vegetables every day made her come up with a bold idea. Having studied chemistry and biology, and not afraid to learn, she decided to research microbiology and then experiment with composting waste to make fertilizer for plants.

The waste to be composted is organic waste, which can be leftover food, spoiled vegetables and fruits combined with probiotics, water and molasses. At first, Ms. Mui experienced many failures such as the small urban living environment, when composting the waste, it produced odors, miscalculated the amount of mixing so the water collected after composting was used to water the plants, causing the plants to go into shock and die...

While working and studying, Ms. Mui gradually began to see the difference when applying microorganisms to composting. After 2 days of composting, there was a source of nutrients for the plants, the soil gradually improved, and the vegetables were green and fresh.

With the results achieved, Ms. Mui eagerly established the group Love Trash (Turning Trash into Flowers) on June 1, 2021 on the Facebook platform. With her enthusiasm in sharing and supporting, the number of members increased rapidly. Here, people share their passion for trees and together apply composting to grow trees, helping families have clean vegetable gardens, fruit trees with lots of fruit, and colorful flowers without using chemicals.

But the real difficulties only began when Ms. Mui had bigger dreams. After the Covid-19 pandemic, she realized that composting waste in the city, small spaces with a moderate amount of waste were enough to take care of the garden. She decided to quit her extremely stable government job to devote herself to applying microbiological methods to her own farm.

Ms. Mui rented a 5,000 m2 plot of land in My Duc district to build a farm. Kien Vang farm officially started operating with the goal of following an organic orientation, applying microorganisms to livestock farming, growing crops, and recycling waste as a source of fertilizer. She hired more workers to take care of the farm, applying microorganisms to handle problems at Kien Vang farm. However, the results were not as expected and the farm was in a state of "collapse" at any time.

Also during this time, her family saw that Ms. Mui was too passionate about "unrealistic" things, so she and her relatives could not find a common voice. This was truly the most difficult time for her. There was a deadlock, resentment, and fatigue, it seemed like she might have to stop here.

After sleepless nights, Ms. Mui still firmly believed that what she did was right. After regaining her spirit and reviewing all the processes, she discovered that the key problem was that the workers still followed old habits and did not believe that thorough application of microorganisms was enough. The process was not applied comprehensively, so failure was understandable.

Finally, Ms. Mui decided to fire all her old employees and do it herself. That can be said to be one of the "historical milestones" in Ms. Mui's journey to develop the farm in an organic direction. And just like the saying "Enough sunshine, flowers will bloom, enough love, happiness will bloom", Kien Vang farm has successfully applied microorganisms to the entire operation process, taking advantage of waste sources, no chemical fertilizers and no pesticides.

Sweet results

Kien Vang farm - No chemicals and the Love Trash community (Turning trash into flowers) with nearly 17,000 members are the sweet fruits of Ms. Mui up to now. By proving to everyone the success of successfully composting trash, not giving off odors, and having lush plants and leaves, she has gradually attracted many people to follow.

One person who can do it and has successful results will multiply two, three people and then a whole group. Ms. Mui believes that when people get results, experience and succeed, they will gradually change their perception and believe in themselves. And when their perception changes, people will be ready to take specific actions for a green life, good for their own health and that of future generations.

Like the case of Mrs. Ngo Thi Quang in Nam Tu Liem (Hanoi). At first, she was skeptical, but when she applied it to her family's small garden, the results were green trees and fertile soil. Excited to grow clean vegetable beds for her children and grandchildren, she has been composting for 5 consecutive years. Mrs. Quang's neighbor, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhuan, came over to visit and saw that the garden was fresh and green, and that Mrs. Quang composted her garbage without any odor, making use of organic waste, so she was also excited to follow suit.

Or like Ms. Hai living in Hanoi - an active member of the group Love Trash (Turning Trash into Flowers) - has applied composting to have a lush 20 m2 vegetable garden on the rooftop for her family. She also uses microorganisms to help her chickens stay healthy without having to use many types of medicine to prevent diseases.

Even more outstanding is the case of Ms. Thuy and Ms. Thao, teachers at Bac Ha District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities (Lao Cai), who have applied the method of composting waste at school toeducate students about green living, and together take care of the vegetable garden, improving their daily meals. They shared their pride and found their work truly meaningful when looking at the lush green vegetable garden in the school, while the students voluntarily have a common awareness in taking care of the garden and protecting the environment.

Tay Mo Secondary School (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) also applies composting to fertilize 100% of the school's green trees. Through this, students can practice lessons from books and environmental protection propaganda sessions in real life.

Then many, many members of the "trash-loving" community in and outside the country have successfully applied and spread the model. Ms. Le Thi Mui does not count how many people she has replicated the model to, but simply believes that it is what she needs and should do. Being aware of responsibility for one's own life, for those around her, or more broadly, social responsibility is a natural thing for every human being. Therefore, she does not calculate what she has done or how great her goal is.

Each step of Ms. Mui is little by little so that the place where she lives and the people she can share with will be greener and healthier.
