According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, Ho Chi Minh City is the first city in Vietnam to host the TPO General Assembly. Hosting the TPO General Assembly within the framework of the ITE HCMC Fair is a "one arrow - many targets" strategy, both raising international status and creating momentum for economic development, trade, tourism and innovation.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong and delegates performed the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that the TPO General Assembly is a valuable forum to introduce new initiatives, strengthen cooperative, friendly and development relationships, together find creative solutions, respond to global challenges, and at the same time spread the values of humane, friendly and responsible tourism to the community.
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that as one of the founding cities and the only city in Vietnam to hold the role of a member of the TPO Executive Board, over the past two decades, Ho Chi Minh City has actively contributed and continuously promoted linkages and cooperation in tourism development among members, affirming its central role in tourism development in the region.
Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc delivered the opening speech of the program.
"Hosting the TPO General Assembly this time is an important milestone, clearly demonstrating Ho Chi Minh City's responsibility and commitment to promoting regional tourism to develop synchronously, creatively and sustainably," affirmed Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Ho Chi Minh City has identified digital transformation and green transformation as strategic options for sustainable tourism development, contributing to environmental protection. In particular, for a "megacity" like Ho Chi Minh City, implementing digital and green transformation will help improve competitiveness, attract high-quality visitors and create long-term added value, promote innovation, apply technology in destination management, measure emissions and orient responsible tourism consumption.
"As a member of the Executive Board and the host city, we hope that, through meetings, leadership conferences, bilateral and multilateral connection programs of member cities, the TPO 2025 General Assembly will develop and unify a common message, a joint statement with practical and highly feasible initiatives to promote sustainable tourism development." - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc expressed.
The event is of great significance, gathering representatives of leaders of TPO member cities, experts and tourism organizations from many countries and territories around the world.
With the theme "Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital and Green Transformation", the TPO General Assembly 2025 is an important agenda for the tourism industry as it faces major challenges such as climate change, the need to personalize the traveler experience, and the explosion of technology and artificial intelligence.
Digital transformation and green transformation are not only trends but also vital factors to ensure the sustainable development of the tourism industry as digital transformation helps the tourism industry improve management efficiency, improve tourist experience and expand market access in a smart and fast way.
These are also two important pillars and strategies that impact the structure, identity and sustainable development direction of the global tourism industry towards the 17 sustainable development criteria of the United Nations.
TPO Secretary General Kang Da-eun speaks at the Opening Ceremony
Ms. Kang Da-eun, Secretary General of the Global Cities Tourism Promotion Organization, shared: "The theme of the 12th General Assembly 'Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital and Green Transformation' reflects the challenges and opportunities of our time. Digital innovation strengthens connectivity and enhances experiences, while green transformation ensures sustainable and inclusive growth. With this orientation, tourism will become a powerful driving force for the prosperity and development of our member cities."
Ms. Kang Da-eun also stated: "TPO is not just an organization but a family of cities and people, bound together by the belief that tourism is a force for good" and affirmed that "Successful tourism will create a better world".
Hosting this event not only enhances the city's international status but also creates a strong impetus for economic, trade and tourism development.
Within the framework of the 12th TPO General Assembly, there were also sessions and seminars focusing on new trends in the tourism industry, the role of digital transformation and green tourism in enhancing the visitor experience and enhancing the competitiveness of destinations.
On this occasion, delegates will exchange experiences and seek cooperation opportunities with tourism management agencies of other countries to develop joint tourism projects, experience unique cultural identities with a series of cultural and artistic exchange programs and survey outstanding tourist destinations of Ho Chi Minh City.
In particular, the 12th TPO General Assembly takes place in parallel with the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC - 2025) - the largest tourism fair in Vietnam. This creates a rare opportunity for business connections and establishing strategic partnerships between countries in the tourism sector.
