In the morning mist still lingering on the buds, the fragrant aroma of young tea wafts in the early wind, signaling the beginning of a new harvest day. This is also the golden time for tea growers of Hoai Trung Tea Company Limited to harvest for the production of high-class Dinh tea - the main product that makes up the Phu Tho clean tea brand, contributing to defining a new position for agricultural products of the land of the ancestors.

The secret to flavor

On an area of ​​nearly 20 hectares of raw tea, Hoai Trung Company mainly cultivates famous tea varieties such as small-leaf midland, purple buds, LD1, LD2, VN15... In which, Dinh tea - made from the youngest buds, is the main product, requiring high care from planting, care to harvesting. Ms. Bui Thi Mao - Director of Hoai Trung Tea Company Limited said: "Dinh tea is very 'difficult'. It can only be harvested manually, the best time is from 5:30 - 8:00 am, when the buds have just opened, still covered with night dew, then it can retain its fresh taste, sweet aftertaste, and natural mild green rice aroma". After being picked, the young buds must not be left in the environment for more than 2 hours but must be processed immediately in a factory that meets hygiene standards, where the Company has proactively designed a modern closed process, from wilting, roasting to kill yeast, rolling the tea, drying, roasting to classifying and packaging.

The special feature of the process is the stainless steel mesh tea withering trough combined with a 500m3/hour fan system, helping the tea buds reach the standard withering level of 60-65%, reducing the pungent smell, and preserving the elegant taste. After that, the yeast-killing roasting machine automatically adjusts the temperature using electricity instead of using charcoal like the old method, not only ensuring labor safety but also helping the tea retain its bright green color and characteristic sweet aftertaste. The tea kneading process has also been improved with a wooden kneading tray instead of metal, which can flexibly adjust the pressure and tilt, reducing up to 95% of the tea bran, maximizing the proportion of whole tea, helping the product achieve even curls and spreading the aroma when brewed. Finally, the tea is lightly roasted to shape the green rice flavor, then hand-sorted and packaged right at the factory.

"We do not use flavoring additives. The fresh aroma and golden green color in the cup of tea come from the young tea buds picked at the right time, in the right way, and processed with the right technique. That is the soul of Hoai Trung tea," Ms. Mao affirmed. Not only ensuring the flavor, the modern production process also helps increase output. From every 120 tons of fresh tea, the company collects about 13-15 tons of high-quality dried Dinh tea, the selling price of which is three times higher than traditional tea, up to 600,000 VND/kg.

Elevating Vietnamese agricultural products

Not only aiming at economic benefits, Hoai Trung Tea Company Limited focuses on developing safe agriculture, with clear traceability, and sustainable with the environment. Microbial and organic fertilizers completely replace chemical fertilizers; workers are thoroughly trained in technical processes, from caring for tea plants to operating machinery and preserving products.

The Company’s strategy is also closely linked to the community: 29 regular workers at the factory are all local people, with a stable income of 8-9 million VND/month. In addition, the Company actively supports people growing satellite tea with clean seeds, organic farming techniques, and commits to purchasing output products.

In May 2023, Dinh Hoai Trung tea products were evaluated and recognized by the Central Council as achieving the 5-star OCOP title - a testament to the quality and strategic nature of the product. Not only that, also in 2023, the solution "Improving the method of growing and processing high-quality green tea recognized as 5-star OCOP by Ms. Bui Thi Mao - Director of Hoai Trung Company Limited excellently entered the final round of the Vietnam Talent Award; The President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education awarded the "Encouraging Education - Self-study, success" award.
