According to statistics from the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), 435 flights had their routes changed, were canceled or were sent to alternate airports due to the impact of storm No. 5 (international name Kajiki).

There were 435 flights changed routes and canceled flights due to the impact of storm No. 5.

Specifically, the number of flights affected by storm No. 5 on August 23 was 225. On August 24, 170 flights had to change routes and 35 flights had to be canceled due to airport closures (Tho Xuan Airport had 26 flights and Dong Hoi Airport had 9 flights), 5 flights had to be diverted to the alternate airport.

VATM has directed aviation meteorological service providers to strengthen the work of ensuring the quality of meteorological information; continuously monitor the weather situation in the area of ​​responsibility, update forecasts and warnings; provide timely and complete monitoring, forecasting and warning information to relevant agencies and units.

“The timely and appropriate air traffic coordination solutions have ensured safety and smooth flight operations. Up to now, the service facilities of the Corporation have ensured safety, smooth communication, and stable equipment systems,” affirmed the VATM leader.

VATM requests the Aviation Meteorological Center to increase the frequency and quality of forecast bulletins, promptly issue airport warnings and warnings of dangerous weather phenomena for flight operations; air traffic service providers, including: Hanoi Air Traffic Control Center, Ho Chi Minh Air Traffic Control Center and related flight operations facilities, must prepare and flexibly implement plans to regulate flight operations before, during and after storms; coordinate with airlines to forecast the throughput capacity of airports and airspace.

Air traffic service providers are ready with plans for waiting flights and changing airports; handling separation due to weather effects; strengthening coordination with military units to ensure safe and smooth flight operations; and proactively developing operational plans in the areas.

Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam decided to temporarily stop accepting aircraft at Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa province) and Dong Hoi ( Quang Tri province) on August 25, 2025.

Specifically, Tho Xuan Airport will close and temporarily suspend operations from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Dong Hoi Airport from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 25 to ensure absolute safety for passengers, people, property, and equipment at the airports./.
