During his visit to his hometown, Mr. Pham Ha Trung, a Vietnamese student studying for a Master's degree in architecture and urban environment at ENSA Nantes (National University of Architecture of Nantes, France) wanted to visit a special project in Hai Phong city. This project was designed by Vietnamese people and has been mentioned by French lecturers when teaching architecture in Vietnam. "I was very excited to visit that project. However, information about the project was quite limited. Luckily, I was introduced to the Hai Phong Study Club. Here, the necessary documents were thoroughly answered through the article of architect Nguyen Minh Tri, a member of the club," Mr. Ha Trung shared.

From there, Mr. Ha Trung had a meaningful visit to Son Ha Villa (Gia Vien Ward). This used to be the private residence of patriotic businessman Nguyen Son Ha. After the August Revolution in 1945, responding to the "Golden Week" call, his family contributed tens of thousands of Indochinese piastres and more than 10.5 kg of gold to the revolution. "Through the Hai Phong Study Club, I not only learned more information about Son Ha Villa but also discovered many other documents about the city," Mr. Ha Trung expressed.

Not only stopping at the field of architecture, Hai Phong Studies Club is truly a "treasure trove" with articles and research works on culture, art, history, health, education, festivals... contributed by dedicated members. Mr. Vu Minh Duc, Vice Chairman of the Club, said: Hai Phong Studies Club was established in September 2012, under the Union of Science and Technology Associations of the city. After 13 years, the club has hundreds of research works on Hai Phong land and people, contributing to promoting the image of the city to domestic and foreign friends. The club also participates in building and reviewing many programs and projects related to economy , society, culture, history, religion, contributing to advising policies suitable for the development of the city.

Many outstanding research works have left their mark, such as: "The Party, government, army and people of the city fought the enemy during 300 days of liberating Hai Phong" by Colonel Tran Quoc Huy; "Unique Buddhist rituals associated with folk life at Hai Phong village pagoda" by Venerable Thich Tuc Nhan... Or in-depth studies on village names, street names, Zen poetry of the Nguyen Dynasty... all help readers understand more about the origin and identity of their homeland.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, a teacher at Tan Duong Secondary School (Thuy Nguyen Ward), the research works of club members have become valuable resources for teachers in teaching local education subjects.

Playground for city lovers

In the early days of its establishment, the Hai Phong Studies Club had only 9 members, but now it has increased to 92 members. The members are intellectuals, teachers, researchers, and many people who love the land and people of the Port City.

According to Mr. Vu Minh Duc, since its inception, the club has aimed to gather passionate people to research and learn in depth about all aspects of Hai Phong. Currently, the oldest member is historian Ngo Dang Loi, over 90 years old and still passionate about writing books. The youngest is Ms. Tran Thi Mai Thu, granddaughter of patriotic businessman Nguyen Son Ha. Although living abroad, she still actively participates in research activities and scientific seminars about Hai Phong.

Researcher Nguyen Phuc Giac Hai, Chairman of the club, affirmed: “The Hai Phong Studies Club is a voluntary, self-governing organization, operating with the aim of becoming a center for research, collection, and preservation of valuable documents about the land and people of Hai Phong. This is truly a practical and meaningful playground for those who love and are passionate about researching the Port City.”
