Jamal Musiala - Bayern's young talent - was injured after rushing out to catch the ball from Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG's goalkeeper. It is worth mentioning that the person who criticized was none other than Manuel Neuer - Bayern's captain and veteran goalkeeper.
"That situation was very dangerous," Neuer said frankly after the match. "As a goalkeeper, I understand that collisions are inevitable, but he did not need to rush in like that. It was an unnecessary risk, especially when the injured person was a teammate."
Not stopping there, Neuer also revealed the conversation between him and Donnarumma during the break: "I asked him: 'Aren't you going to see how Musiala is? He's seriously injured.' I think that's the minimum to show respect. And then, he left."
While Neuer expressed his disappointment, another goalkeeper - Thibaut Courtois - had a different perspective. Responding to the media, the Real Madrid star said: "Blaming Donnarumma is too harsh. Goalkeepers have to play the ball, and sometimes things happen unexpectedly. The striker did not avoid blocking our path. It was simply an accident. Donnarumma will certainly be sadder than anyone else because the injured person is a teammate."
The extent of Musiala's injury is still unclear, but Neuer said it "looks serious". Bayern will certainly need replacements if they lose one of their most creative players for the rest of the tournament.
