It is expected that on July 16, the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam will be announced, after which, candidates will begin registering their university admission wishes.

According to regulations, this year's university entrance exam will no longer have early admission rounds like previous years. Although many different admission methods are still used, such as reviewing academic records, considering competency assessment test scores, etc., most candidates are still admitted based on high school graduation exam scores.

Many admissions experts predict that there will be fluctuations in university admission scores based on high school graduation exam scores in various fields, because the test takers' performance in different subjects in this year's exam is different, in which, Math and English are considered difficult to achieve high scores.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, analyzed that, unlike previous years, Foreign Languages (including English) are one of the compulsory subjects in the high school graduation exam.

This year, this is an elective subject and only strong candidates can register for the exam, so the score will not be too low. However, achieving a high score in English is not easy.

Similarly, with the exam being relatively difficult, achieving good scores in Math in this year's exam is not much.

Therefore, Master Pham Thai Son predicts that the benchmark score in 2025 will decrease in the group with Math and English, about 0.5-1.5 points; the groups with Physics, Chemistry, Biology may not fluctuate because the difficulty of the exam for these subjects is similar to last year.

For the majors that have a combination of subjects such as Information Technology, Economic Education and Law, the expected minimum score for receiving application documents is 16-17 points, because it is noted that candidates did quite well on the exam.

For Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade alone, according to Master Pham Thai Son, the benchmark scores for majors in Economics and Commerce such as Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Business Administration this year will be the same or about 1 point lower than last year.

For the Tourism and Information Technology sectors, this year's benchmark scores will decrease by about 0.5 points compared to last year; while other engineering and technology sectors such as Food Technology, Electricity, Mechanics, Garment Technology, Biotechnology, etc. are expected to have the same benchmark scores as last year.

Due to the difficulty of the exam and the level of performance in the recent exam, candidates should consider choosing a suitable major to ensure the opportunity to be admitted to their favorite major.

Intending to apply for the Multimedia Communication major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University with the admission combination D01 (Math-Literature-English) or D14 (Literature-History-English), Thu Nhi (Xuan Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City) chose to take two optional subjects in the recent high school graduation exam, History and English.

Nhi said she did quite well in History but this year's English test was difficult and long so her test results were not as expected.

With her test results, Thu Nhi did not have much hope of being admitted to her favorite major, Multimedia Communications, because last year the admission scores for this major were all above 27 points, but she still put this as her first choice.

Nhi is considering choosing her second choice, the Arts major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University, because this is also her favorite major, with a lower standard score than Multimedia Communications.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that this year's university admissions have some important adjustments, candidates need to pay attention when registering their wishes on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Accordingly, this year there will be no early admission, all methods from considering academic records, considering competency assessment test scores, considering high school graduation exam scores... will be considered at the same time after the high school graduation exam results are available.

Candidates do not need to register for the admission method or combination, but only need to register for the major and school, and the Ministry's general admission system will automatically select the most beneficial combination and method for each candidate's wishes.

Schools do not apply the direct admission priority method according to their own project but will add priority points during the admission process. The total priority points, including regional and target priority points, will not exceed 10% of the admission score.

Regarding how to register your wishes, candidates should arrange their wishes in order of priority, in which they should put their favorite major first, followed by options that match their abilities and wishes, and finally the safest option to ensure admission.

After knowing the exam scores, students compare them with the admission scores of the majors in the past 2-3 years, determining the order of preferences to ensure safety.

At this time, when you do not know your exam scores, you need to focus on carefully researching admission information of universities with majors you are interested in; including carefully researching the admission combination of the major, bonus point policy, converting points from foreign language certificates, etc.

According to experts, to choose the right major and school, along with the most important factor of choosing a major that suits your abilities and interests, students need to update trends and demands of the labor market to avoid choosing a "hot" major following a trend.

Along with that, students can choose a major with a broad foundation and can flexibly change to suit social needs.
