To develop border gate economy to its full potential

An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone (KTCK) is identified as one of the 8 national key economic zones. The merger of the province, expanding the development space, forming a large province with diverse terrain of "mountains - plains - border - islands". This is a great strategic advantage to realize the vision: An Giang becomes the dynamic development center of the Mekong Delta, aiming at the goal of a national marine economic center.

Strategic location

An Giang, with its strategic location, is an important trade hub with Cambodia and the Mekong sub-region countries, so the Government has chosen An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone as one of the eight important Border Gate economic zones to prioritize investment in the coming time, turning this place into a multi-sector, multi-field economic zone including: Industry - trade - services - tourism - logistics - urban and agriculture - forestry - fishery.

In order to increase investment attraction to exploit the potential and strengths of the locality, the province is completing the development plan, focusing on investing in synchronous technical infrastructure, strongly developing science and technology , accessing advanced technology levels; training and fostering high-quality human resources, promoting improvement of the investment and business environment, and enhancing competitiveness. "The province considers this a top priority to implement the socio-economic development plan goals of the province, aiming to make An Giang one of the attractive destinations for investors. An Giang is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for investors when registering and implementing projects in the area" - Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung shared.

According to the Head of the An Giang Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, Tran Minh Nhut, over the past 5 years, the unit has led the implementation of political tasks well, contributing significantly to the economic growth of the province. Every year, the disbursement of public investment capital plans reaches about 95% of the total plan, while advising competent authorities to approve many key projects, such as: An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone Investment Project; dossier to upgrade Khanh Binh Border Gate to an international border gate (road, river); Vam Cong Industrial Park Infrastructure Development Project (193.31ha) approved by the Prime Minister for investment; Project to adjust the general planning of An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone until 2045; The Provincial People's Committee also approved the investment in Tinh Bien Border Gate Logistics Center Phase 1 (25 hectares, implemented 2026 - 2030)... and determined to build new planning projects, adjust the planning of industrial parks, functional areas of border gate economic zones (Dinh Thanh, Binh Hoa, Xuan To expanded industrial parks, Vinh Xuong functional areas) to ensure clean land funds to attract investment.

“Tinh Bien International Border Gate is an international land border gate, connecting with Phnom Den border gate of Takeo province, Cambodia. This border gate has many advantages for the import and export of agricultural products, consumer goods, trading, exchange, and coordination of goods between Vietnam and Cambodia; a strategic gateway to help our country's goods access more to the world market…” - said a business representative.

Investment promotion activities have been promoted. The province has received and worked with 47 domestic and foreign investors to explore investment in the following industries: Garment, leather shoes, agricultural processing... in industrial parks and functional areas of border economic zones. Currently, industrial parks and economic zones of An Giang province (old) have 44 investment projects in operation, with a total registered capital of VND 7,050 billion, creating jobs for nearly 19,500 workers. The State budget has allocated over VND 329 billion to invest in infrastructure of industrial parks and functional areas of border economic zones, period 2021 - 2025. Currently, An Giang plans 5 industrial parks (856.94ha), of which 3 industrial parks have been put into operation, with a total area of over 219.75ha. In Kien Giang province (old), there have been 23 projects registered for investment in 2 industrial parks (Thanh Loc and Thuan Yen) that have been granted investment policy decisions, with a total registered investment capital of about 6,603.83 billion VND and a total registered area of 85.73 hectares.

Determination to develop

When merged, the scale of industrial parks and economic zones will be larger and wider. Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung said: "With its advantages and outstanding potential, in the coming time, An Giang will promote its combined strength, optimize the potential of the border economic zone system; connect the border through a system of 9 border gates, including 3 international border gates (Khanh Binh border gate is preparing to be upgraded to an international border gate), helping to boost border gate economy, trade with Cambodia and the Mekong sub-region. At the same time, strengthen regional connectivity and linkage through the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, route N1 and the upcoming Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu expressway, creating favorable conditions to attract investment, develop logistics infrastructure, border trade, promote economic, cultural exchange and international cooperation with Cambodia".

An Giang province is newly formed, with potential and advantages to exploit the border economy. If there is synchronous planning and policies, An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone will form an attractive border economic network adjacent to Cambodia, becoming a vibrant and attractive economic zone, effectively connecting trade between the Mekong Delta region and the Mekong sub-region countries. The Provincial Economic Zone Management Board said: In the coming time, the province will focus on 3 breakthroughs: Digital transformation, administrative reform; creating an open investment environment, sustainable development of industrial parks and economic zones. Training human resources to meet the needs of projects and industrial parks. Investing in developing important infrastructure - proactively implementing the An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone Investment Project after being approved by the Prime Minister. In particular, reviewing and adjusting the planning, speeding up the completion of remaining key projects.
