famous singer Minh Canh
Recently, in a conversation with an audience in the US, famous singer Minh Canh, who lives quietly at the age of 87, shared the feelings of an old artist in a foreign land: "We also have to work hard to make ends meet."
Born in 1937, Minh Canh is a name associated with the golden age of Southern Cai Luong in the 1960s-1970s. With his resonant voice, delicate accents, creative and captivating vọng cổ singing style, he was once known as: "Famous singer", "First famous singer of long breath"... The press and experts at that time did not hesitate to praise artist Minh Canh with titles such as "Child prodigy of Cai Luong", "Voice of the new wave" - an irreplaceable symbol of Vietnamese Cai Luong art.
But at the age of 87, living in America, artist Minh Canh no longer lives in the old glory in his daily life. "I can still eat and live normally. But it's very difficult to go on shows. This is America, not Vietnam, where there are many cai luong shows" - he shared sincerely, with a bit of sadness.

Vietnamese Artists in the US: "Have to work hard to make ends meet"
Artist Minh Canh does not shy away from talking about his real life and that of many of his colleagues abroad. "There are very few shows here. Only rich people organize concerts on weddings, death anniversaries, etc., and then they invite artists to sing. Ticket-selling shows like in Vietnam are very rare," he said.

A story he told made listeners feel sad: "I have a younger brother who works as a prompter, after America he worked as a restaurant assistant, but now the restaurant is very quiet, the situation is difficult. Luckily, thanks to the help of a few overseas Vietnamese uncles and aunts, we can make ends meet."
Behind the spotlight are the silent lives of artists, making a living in foreign lands. Even though they were once big names, loved by millions of audiences, they still struggle with daily life, especially when they are no longer at the peak of their fame.
Even though he is living in the US, Minh Canh's eyes are always turned towards his homeland. He said emotionally: "I still want to return home to perform, but it depends on the economic and health conditions. To be honest, here we also have to work hard to earn money for every meal. Everyone knows their own circumstances."
The nostalgia for his homeland, for the stage, for the sound of the instrument, the lights and the applause is something that is not easily quenched. He longs to be able to return if conditions permit. It is not only a return to the audience, but also the homecoming of an artist's soul whose passion has never been extinguished.
