The workshop is within the framework of implementing the ministerial-level scientific project "Application of 4.0 technology in the field of performing arts" chaired by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Quang Dong.
Technology is transforming the performing arts
The workshop aims to create a forum for exchange, discussion, and consultation with managers, experts, artists, etc. to clarify the current status of applying 4.0 technology in the performing arts field and find effective and practical solutions; contributing to improving the quality of performing arts programs in Vietnam today.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Thu (Head of the Art Research Department - Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism ) said that in the 21st century, 4.0 technology plays an increasingly important role in social life; including performing arts.
Industry 4.0 has created changes and developments in the performing arts sector, opening up new opportunities for creation, production, distribution and experience of art. The combination of performing arts and Industry 4.0 has created unique, interactive and highly personalized products and experiences that were previously difficult to achieve.
Dr. Tran Thi Minh Thu believes that 4.0 technology allows audiences to immerse themselves in a realistic performance space, creating many vivid effects that attract viewers; helping performing arts reach a global audience, overcoming geographical limitations.
“However, in reality, the application of 4.0 technology in the performing arts sector still has many limitations. Partly because it is difficult to use, has high operating costs, and partly because facilities and equipment are outdated or not invested in synchronously,” said Dr. Tran Thi Minh Thu.
Along with that, the technical staff is not yet fully aware of the operation and new technologies. The choreographers and directors also do not fully understand the effects and methods of application in practice.
Some programs that apply new technology do not ensure artistry and interaction, and focus on image projection; leading to low efficiency. Therefore, the performance industry market in our country has not developed commensurate with its available potential.
Synchronous development of infrastructure and technology
Presenting the opening report of the Workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong (Director of the Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism) emphasized that 4.0 technology is bringing values, forms of access, and attracting audiences to performing arts.
Hundreds of effects and software from simple to complex are being developed, creating many choices for the team of artistic creators. Through that, the viewpoint and staging method have changed rapidly.
Technology 4.0 has created many new effects and efficiencies. Many genres and art forms have benefited, creating many prospects for strong development, not only domestically but also spreading abroad; increasing the competitiveness of the country's art products.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong added that 4.0 technology not only attracts viewers but also contributes significantly to the creation of works of high artistic value, helping to improve the aesthetic taste of the audience; creating new trends in global trends.
The proof is that many programs in the world and in Vietnam when applying 4.0 technology have created strong effects, have spread, bring rich experiences to the audience; there is a resonance between traditional and modern values.
In Vietnam, the Deputy Minister of the Government issued Decision 1909/QD-TTg approving the Cultural Development Strategy to 2030. In addition, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 773/QD-BVHTTDL approving the Plan to develop a Project to apply technology of Industry 4.0 in building key products of the culture, sports and tourism sector .
In particular, promoting scientific and technological research and digital transformation in the cultural field is emphasized. The goal is to develop a synchronous modern technological infrastructure to meet the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong stated that in the development of the cultural industry, performing arts is considered a field that needs priority investment. The application of digital transformation to preserve and promote the value of traditional art forms is an issue that needs to be focused on. In the current flow of performing arts, it is necessary to have research and solutions from theory to practice to create a real "shift" in the field of performing arts.
“Vietnam needs to clearly define the values that performing arts bring, especially when increasing the application of 4.0 technology; especially with traditional arts. To do this, we cannot be behind but must join the development flow of the world.
Therefore, the topic of Applying 4.0 technology to the performing arts field requires careful research to create sustainable and substantial changes," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong affirmed.
At the workshop, delegates focused on clarifying a number of issues such as the theoretical and practical basis for applying 4.0 technology to the performing arts field; the importance of 4.0 technology to performing arts; what outstanding features, advantages, and effects will new technologies applied to performing arts bring?...
The workshop also discussed experiences in applying 4.0 technology to performing arts in some typical countries, successful and unsuccessful lessons for Vietnam to learn; the current status of applying 4.0 technology to performing arts in Vietnam; solutions to enhance the application of 4.0 technology to improve the quality of art programs in the new period...
