Promoting the role of Thai Nguyen University as a training center
On July 1, 2025, Thai Nguyen province (new) was officially established on the basis of merging Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces according to Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly. Currently, Thai Nguyen has a natural area of over 8,375 km2, a population of nearly 1.8 million people, including 92 communes and wards. The administrative center is located in Thai Nguyen city (old).
Immediately after the merger, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Viet Hung wrote an important article emphasizing the development orientation based on science, technology and innovation.
One of the consistent strategies is to continue improving the quality of human resources, promoting vocational training, equipping workers with knowledge and practical skills to meet the requirements of the digital economy and the fourth industrial revolution.

As a major educational center of the Northern midland and mountainous region, Thai Nguyen is currently home to Thai Nguyen University - one of the five national key regional universities.
In recent times, Thai Nguyen University has made impressive progress in terms of scale, quality and influence.
From 2020 to present, the training scale of Thai Nguyen University has increased sharply, with more than 85,000 students, an increase of more than 20,000 people. The school has opened 49 new training majors, built 29 international joint programs; the rate of students having jobs suitable for their training majors is over 80%.
Notably, 7/7 member universities have completed the second cycle of quality assessment, with 35 programs meeting AUN-QA standards and 88 programs being assessed domestically.

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Van Hung, Director of Thai Nguyen University, said: "We always identify the responsibility to accompany the province in improving the quality of human resources. After the merger, Thai Nguyen University will continue to play a central role in training a high-quality workforce, in line with the province's new development strategy."
In the coming period, Thai Nguyen University aims to become a "Green University", "Digital University", and an innovation center of the Northern midland and mountainous region.
Key development directions include semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence (AI), smart agriculture, STEM education and digital economy. The school will promote interdisciplinary study, diversify training forms, build a personalized education ecosystem, and serve the needs of lifelong learning.
Synchronously develop general education, narrow regional gaps
Not only focusing on developing university education, Thai Nguyen province also focuses on improving the quality of comprehensive and equal general education.
Currently, the province has 976 educational facilities with more than 433,000 students, including: 351 kindergartens, 263 primary schools, 49 primary - secondary schools, 238 secondary schools, 4 secondary - high schools and 46 high schools; 2 continuing education centers and 16 vocational education - continuing education centers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province, said: "After the merger, the education sector identified an important goal of narrowing the gap in education quality between regions, creating a fair foundation in accessing knowledge for students of all ethnic groups."

To achieve this goal, the province will prioritize investment in modern facilities, digitize teaching and learning activities, and strengthen the teaching staff in remote areas.
Life skills education, career education, and STEM orientation programs will also be expanded to help students develop comprehensively.
Thai Nguyen is facing a rare opportunity to transform itself strongly. From a national administrative policy, the province has promptly built a comprehensive and methodical development strategy, in which education - training, science - technology and human resource quality are identified as a solid foundation for a breakthrough in the near future.
