Arsenal are set to add another signing to their ranks as Brentford captain Christian Norgaard is set to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium this week. The Danish defensive midfielder joins the north Londoners to add depth in midfield, where he is expected to provide competition for and support for high-profile signing Martin Zubimendi.
According to Standard Sport , the deal to sign Norgaard is now in its final stages and is expected to be completed in the next few days. This is part of coach Mikel Arteta's ambitious squad upgrade plan ahead of the new season.
Arsenal have also begun their first pre-season training sessions this week, in preparation for the upcoming important friends. Notably, the team will embark on a major tour to Singapore and Hong Kong (China), starting on July 19. In Singapore, Arsenal will face AC Milan and Newcastle, before facing arch-rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong.
After their Asian tour, Arsenal will close their pre-season with two friendlies at the Emirates Stadium against Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao – crucial tests ahead of the grueling Premier League campaign.
The Gunners have already completed their first two signings of the summer, with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga arriving from Chelsea for £5m, while midfielder Zubimendi arrived from Real Sociedad for a fee in excess of £50m.
Not stopping there, Arsenal are also actively negotiating with Sporting Lisbon to recruit striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish player is said to have agreed personal terms on a five-year contract. However, the negotiation process between the two clubs has not yet reached an agreement on the transfer fee, as Sporting has not yet accepted Arsenal's proposal of 65 million euros (56 million pounds) plus 15 million euros (13 million pounds) in additional fees.
Arsenal have also been keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, but sources in Slovenia confirmed on Monday afternoon that the young striker will not be joining the London club this transfer window.
With a series of strong moves in the transfer market, Arsenal shows real determination in improving the squad to compete for titles next season.
