Previously, Ms. Huong’s family mainly did rice milling with a scale of hundreds of tons/year to supply traders and people in the commune. However, when the demand for rice consumption decreased, she found a new business direction.

For about 10 years now, the conversion of rice fields to earthworm exploitation in Chi Minh commune and some localities in Tu Ky and Thanh Ha districts has developed strongly. Due to the great economic efficiency of earthworms, people have increasingly taken care of earthworm fields to increase productivity and quality.

Realizing the high demand for corn to provide additional nutrition for the earthworm, Ms. Huong switched to this food business. Currently, she supplies the market with about 30 tons of corn kernels and ground corn each month. The supply of rice is still maintained but on a reduced scale compared to before.

Four years ago, Ms. Huong's family bought 9 acres of land in Trai Vuc area (in the same commune) to exploit the earthworms. She focused her resources and efforts on renovating it by building a culvert to take in water and drain it out. She plowed and fertilized with straw to make the soil loose, creating a suitable environment for the earthworms to live. In 2024, despite the impact of storm No. 3, her family still harvested 8 tons of earthworms.

A highlight in economic development that few people can do is that she boldly found many ways to export bloodworms, increasing the economic efficiency of her family as well as farmers.

When there were many local earthworms, she sought out traders to build relationships so that she could export earthworms to China. Every year, she exports about 150 tons of earthworms to China. With such a diverse economic model, each year Ms. Huong's family earns over 1 billion VND in profit.

Sharing the secret to success, Ms. Huong believes that one must be diligent, not afraid of work, and at the same time must quickly grasp changes and put reputation first to be able to stand firm in the market.

Not only good at business and trading, Ms. Huong's family is also a typical local example when regularly participating in supporting movement activities with tens of millions of dong each year.

Commenting on the economic model of Ms. Huong's family, Mr. Nguyen Van Du, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chi Minh Commune, said that this is a typical production and business model of the locality because of its large scale, high, stable and sustainable income. Ms. Huong's family lives in harmony with neighbors, so everyone loves them.
