There needs to be a solution to completely resolve the situation of dirty water flowing into the sea along Pham Van Dong Street.

Recently, readers in Nha Trang have repeatedly reported that every time there is heavy rain, wastewater mixes with rainwater and overflows on Pham Van Dong Street, flowing out of Hon Mot and Dang Tat discharge gates into the Hon Chong - Dang Tat sea area (Nha Trang Bay), causing environmental pollution, affecting the marine ecosystem and urban aesthetics.

Dirty water flows into the sea when there is heavy rain

Recently, on the afternoon of June 25, at Hon Mot outlet (Hon Mot beach location, Pham Van Dong street), after a heavy rain, a large amount of rainwater mixed with wastewater overflowed onto the road and flowed into Nha Trang Bay. A black color of dirty water covered an area of the sea where people and tourists were swimming. Previously, on May 30, at Dang Tat outlet (Hon Chong Park location, Pham Van Dong street), dirty water also flowed into the sea, emitting a foul smell. According to a representative of the Public Service Management Board, at Dang Tat outlet, on May 30, there was heavy rain, 1 of 3 pumps at Dang Tat pumping station was pumping to the Southern Nha Trang Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment according to the process, but had an incident that stopped working for a short time, leading to the above incident. After the incident of dirty water flowing into the sea, the unit fixed it; In the coming time, the unit will replace 3 new pumps to support Dang Tat pumping station, expected to be installed and tested in July.

Mr. Phan Thanh Binh (a resident of Bac Nha Trang ward) said that his family has lived in the Hon Chong - Dang Tat area for more than 20 years. Every time it rains, along Pham Van Dong street, wastewater and rainwater stagnate and flow into the sea. The dirty water is black, stagnant and smells bad, affecting the urban beauty and people's lives; destroying the beautiful image of Nha Trang beach tourism . People really hope that the authorities will have a solution to completely handle the problem that has existed for many years.

In order to understand the cause of the stagnant dirty water flowing into the sea through the Hon Mot and Dang Tat discharge gates in recent years, it is known that at the Hon Mot discharge gate, rainwater and wastewater from Ba Lang residential area (group 8, group 9) are collected to the D1000 sewer on Pham Van Dong street. Because the rainwater drainage system here has been connected to wastewater by households and businesses in the past, but there has not been a pumping station and a separation well to collect wastewater to the Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant, when it rains, untreated wastewater is discharged directly into the sea, causing pollution.

For Dang Tat outlet, rainwater and wastewater from residential areas north of La San hill and along Cu Chi, Bac Son, Dang Tat, Hon Chong streets are collected to the common sewer on Pham Van Dong street to the separation well, pumping station at the end of Dang Tat street. Wastewater is pumped to Phuoc Hue canal and brought to the Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant. This area has installed a pumping station, separation well, and the operating mechanism is similar to the pumping stations operating in the southern area. The system receives a large amount of wastewater from Muong Thanh Vien Trieu apartment complex, hotels, and restaurants along Pham Van Dong street. The drainage basin is large, the Dang Tat pumping station designed to pump wastewater does not meet the pumping capacity when it rains. Rainwater has not yet diluted with wastewater, the pumping station has exceeded the capacity threshold, so wastewater is discharged directly to the beach.

Continue to consider investing in projects to control wastewater pollution sources.

To resolve the above situation, recently, the competent authorities have proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider supporting investment capital for projects to complete drainage infrastructure and improve the environment with 9 projects, including 2 projects at Dang Tat outlet and Hon Mot outlet (along Pham Van Dong road). However, currently, the Provincial People's Committee is developing a medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 after the province's merger. Therefore, the consideration of supporting investment capital for the project cannot be implemented at the present time. The Department of Finance will continue to study, consider and advise the Provincial People's Committee on the issue of handling local pollution sources in Nha Trang after the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 is expected to be consistent with the arrangement, merger and consolidation of administrative units at all levels, which has been approved by competent authorities.

Talking to reporters, scientists dedicated to the restoration of Nha Trang Bay all said that wastewater sources from the mainland flowing into Nha Trang Bay are one of the causes of the degradation of the marine ecosystem. Although there have been many scientific seminars and meetings organized by the Provincial People's Committee, departments, and branches related to this content over the past years, it has not been completely resolved. Investing in and upgrading the drainage system and treating sources of wastewater pollution flowing into Nha Trang Bay is extremely necessary, and the province needs to pay attention and invest synchronously to overcome the incidents causing pollution in Nha Trang Bay, meeting the goal of building a green - clean - beautiful Nha Trang, with sustainable development.
