Argentine international relations expert Marcelo Ramírez affirmed that becoming a BRICS partner will help Vietnam diversify its relations while strengthening its political and diplomatic position.
In an interview with a VNA reporter in Buenos Aires, Argentine international relations expert Marcelo Ramírez affirmed that becoming a BRICS partner will help Vietnam diversify its relations, while strengthening its political and diplomatic position, thereby expanding its influence to distant regions such as South America, where the two sides have great potential for economic cooperation but have not yet been fully exploited.
According to Mr. Ramírez - a collaborator of Sputnik news agency, BRICS and Telesur TV channels, this is a favorable time for Vietnam to balance international relations.
Vietnam needs to diversify and expand its relations with other partners to diversify its market. He emphasized that Argentina could be a bridge to promote cooperation between South American and Southeast Asian countries.
Regarding regional issues, such as the dispute in the East Sea, Mr. Ramírez commented that Vietnam and China have more forums to resolve disagreements peacefully, through dialogue within the framework of multilateral organizations.
According to Argentine experts, the rise of emerging economies like Vietnam is inevitable. Vietnam used to be a poor country but now it has risen to the middle-income group with a high growth rate.
Vietnam needs to have a greater say in shaping new global institutions. Mr. Ramírez said that historically disadvantageous countries, especially in the Global South, are increasingly asserting their roles in international forums.
In this context, the emergence of new financial, trade and political institutions, such as BRICS, is playing a key role, creating alternatives to the traditional Western model.
Regarding the globalization trend, the expert says that the world is shifting from a model of radical free trade to a model of selective protection, focusing on protecting strategic sectors of the economy. This requires BRICS to adapt and build new trade rules that are in line with the interests of developing countries.
He emphasized that Vietnam and Indonesia, two important members of ASEAN, are partners and members of BRICS, and will play a role in promoting the integration process, stabilizing standards and regulations between the two regions, thereby ensuring the convergence takes place smoothly and in the most beneficial way.
Cooperation between South America and Southeast Asia is highly complementary. South America has strengths in natural resources, minerals, food, water and energy; while Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam, has potential in technology and industrial production. Connecting the two regions will open up great opportunities for bilateral development.
According to Mr. Ramírez, South America needs to reduce its dependence on traditional markets such as the US and Europe, which are facing many difficulties, such as the energy crisis in Europe, to expand cooperation with emerging partners such as Southeast Asia./.
