Martin Zubimendi signs for Arsenal at Emirates |
After three consecutive seasons of finishing second in the Premier League, Arsenal is determined to win the championship next season by being active in the summer transfer market in 2025. In recent times, Arsenal has been rumored to have a series of "huge" targets and they are gradually completing the most anticipated deals.
After successfully recruiting goalkeeper Kepa from Chelsea, Arsenal officially announced the first "blockbuster". That is Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Gunners pursued Zubimendi since the summer of 2024, but it was not until this year that they were able to convince this small midfielder to move to England to play.
To own Zubimendi, Arsenal had to spend more than 51 million pounds (60 million euros) to break the contract between this midfielder and Real Sociedad. Previously, Arsenal tried to convince Real Sociedad to "reduce the price" and pay in installments but failed.
Zubimendi, 26 years old, is considered one of the best central midfielders in the world . He is a member of the Spanish team that won EURO 2024 and is the perfect replacement for Rodri in La Roja when the Man City star is seriously injured.
Zubimendi joined Real Sociedad at the age of 12 and has been with the club for the past 14 years. He has made a total of 236 appearances for the Basque club, scoring 10 goals. With Zubimendi, Arsenal has a super strong midfield, which already includes Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
At the same time Arsenal announced the Zubimendi deal, British media reported that the club had reached a personal agreement with Sporting Lisbon's "super striker" Viktor Gyokeres. Last season, Gyokeres was the most effective striker in Europe, scoring 54 goals and assisting 12 goals in 52 matches.
According to reputable sources, Gyokeres openly rebelled at Sporting to pave the way to Arsenal. However, the Gunners are still expected to pay a large fee, up to more than 70 million euros to complete this deal.
