(Dan Tri) - The benchmark scores of 13 high schools with competition ratios below 1 decreased sharply, up to 8.4 points in the case of Tho Xuan High School.

In the 2025 public 10th grade entrance exam, the number of high schools in Hanoi with a competition ratio of less than 1 is up to 13 schools, including 2 inner-city schools: Phuc Loi High School and Thuong Cat High School.

The benchmark scores of these 13 schools this year have all quite dropped significantly. Thuong Cat School takes 19 points, an average of 6.3 points/subject. Meanwhile, the benchmark score in 2024 of this school is 38.5 points, an average of 7.45 points/subject. The sharp drop is up to 3.3 points.

Phuc Loi School dropped more sharply with 8.1 points. This year, the school's benchmark score is 14.5, an average of 4.8 points/subject. In 2024, the school's benchmark score is 37.75, an average of 7.55 points/subject, among the highest in the city.

The same is true for Tho Xuan High School. The school's benchmark score has decreased from 6.15 points/subject in 2024 to 3.3 points/subject. The decrease is 8.4 points.

Other schools saw an average drop of 3-4 points compared to 2024.

Tho Xuan High School has the lowest competition ratio in the city at 1/0.64. The school was allocated 540 quotas by the city, but only 348 students registered for their first choice.

Likewise, Dai Cuong High School has a quota of 450, 294 students registered for the first choice, the competition ratio is 1/0.65.

The remaining schools in the group with a competition ratio of less than 1 are Minh Quang, Tu Lap, Bac Luong Son, Xuan Khanh, Bat Bat, Ung Hoa B, Luu Hoang, Dong My, Ung Hoa A, Thuong Cat and Nguyen Trai (old Thuong Tin).

Although a competition ratio of less than 1 will increase the chance of admission for students applying for their first choice to the school, the chance of passing is not 100%. Because the admission principle is to consider all choices in parallel and equal.

In the 2024 10th grade admission season, a leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training clearly explained: "There is no way that candidates can be sure to pass when registering their first choice at a school with a competition ratio of less than 1.

For example, a school has 350 quotas, the admission score is 20, there are 100 students with the first choice getting 20 points, 100 students with the second choice getting 21 points, 150 students with the third choice getting 22 points.

Students will be considered in parallel until all students meet the conditions according to the standard score, not having to prioritize the first choice before considering the second and third choices.

This can also be seen in last year's admissions, when Doan Ket High School and Bat Bat High School both had a competition ratio of less than 1, but one school increased by 8 points, the other school decreased by 16 points.
