On the evening of July 5, the Thai women's football team unexpectedly lost 1-2 to the Indian women's team in the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers. This defeat caused the Thai women's football team to be eliminated from the Asian women's football tournament taking place next year.
At the same time, also because of not being able to participate in the 2026 Asian Cup, the Thai women's football team was officially eliminated from the 2027 World Cup (the 2026 Asian Cup is the Asian qualifying round of the 2027 World Cup).

Not only that, the Thai women's team has also been eliminated from the 2028 Olympic women's football event (the 8 highest-ranked teams at the 2026 Asian Cup will participate in the 2028 Olympic qualifying round in Asia).
This was a huge shock for Thai women's football. Immediately after the Thai women's team lost, FAT president Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang) immediately apologized.
Madam Pang said: “The night of July 5 was the night I felt the most regretful and disappointed. I want to apologize to the fans because the Thai women's team lost to India. This defeat ruined the long-term plan of the Thai women's team to participate in the 2027 World Cup, set by the FAT.”

For the first time since 1997, the Thai women's team failed to qualify for the Asian Championship finals (Photo: FAT).
“I was the head of the Thai women's team at the Women's World Cup in Canada (2015) and France (2019), and I love women's football very much. That's why I'm even more disappointed with last night's defeat. There are no excuses from the FAT, myself, the coaching staff, or the Thai women's team,” Madam Pang added.
In addition to directly apologizing for the defeat of the Thai women's team, Madam Pang also soon revealed plans to reform women's football in the Land of the Golden Temple.
The head of Thai football shared: "I promise that on Monday, FAT will hold an Executive Committee meeting. After this meeting, I will adjust the organizational structure of all Thai women's football teams. After that, I will answer frankly to the media."
“FAT has prepared the best for the Thai women's football team, and has called on "Thai-overseas" players living abroad to return to play for the team, but has not yet achieved the best results. We will discuss this issue carefully with the technical director and head coach of the team to find a solution,” Madam Pang emphasized.
