In the opening match of Group G, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team created a surprise when they won a set against Poland - the team currently ranked 3rd in the world. In the second match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will face the German women's team, currently ranked 11th in the world.

With a convincing performance against Poland, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is expected to continue to create more surprises when facing the European representative on August 25.

German women's volleyball team off to a good start

Germany opened the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Kenya (sets 25-22, 25-8, 25-20). Despite a bit of a stalemate in the first set, coach Giulio Cesare Bregoli's team quickly dominated thanks to a sharp attack with Lina Alsmeier and Emilia Weske (each scoring 13 points). Statistics showed the superiority of the German team: 8 blocks, 5 direct serves, while the opponent made 25 errors.

Coach Bregoli commented after the match: “We are of course very happy with our first win. This is a world championship, no match is easy. Kenya played well and made us adapt. Despite the ups and downs, the whole team kept calm. This opening win is very important.”

Camilla Weitzel – Leader on the Net

Captain Camilla Weitzel, 1.95 m tall, is the most representative face of German women's volleyball. Having played for Chieri (Italy) for three years, then moved to Pesaro and soon Scandicci - Champions League runner-up, Weitzel has experience fighting in a top environment.

“Kenya were a surprise to us because we had never faced them before,” she said after the opening match. “They defended very well, attacked strongly and it took us time to adapt. But I am proud that the team adjusted, found their rhythm and won.”

The German women's volleyball team brought 14 players to Thailand, 11 of whom are playing for foreign clubs, while six are from Italian clubs. Despite the absence of setter Pia Kästner and libero Annie Cesar due to injury, the team has maintained stability. Coach Bregoli affirmed: "Everything is possible. We believe we can win every match and do not want to limit ourselves."

The key match with Vietnam

After a day off, Germany will face Vietnam at 5pm on August 25 (Vietnam time). This is a crucial match for both Germany and Vietnam. Winning this match will likely open up the opportunity to win second place in the group. The German team is rated higher thanks to its experience and squad depth, but coach Bregoli himself is cautious: "We are fully focused on the first two matches. We want and can win, but it will certainly not be easy."

The final match of the group stage between Germany and Poland (on August 27) will likely determine the top spot in the group. However, for Vietnamese fans, all attention is on the match on August 25 - where coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will continue to try to create more surprises against world-class opponents like the German women's volleyball team.
