German women's volleyball team off to a good start
Germany opened the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Kenya (sets 25-22, 25-8, 25-20). Despite a bit of a stalemate in the first set, coach Giulio Cesare Bregoli's team quickly dominated thanks to a sharp attack with Lina Alsmeier and Emilia Weske (each scoring 13 points). The German women's volleyball team brought 14 players to Thailand, 11 of whom are playing for foreign clubs, while six are from Italian clubs. Despite the absence of setter Pia Kästner and libero Annie Cesar due to injury, the team has maintained stability. Coach Bregoli affirmed: "Everything is possible. We believe we can win every match and do not want to limit ourselves."
The key match with Vietnam
After a day off, Germany will face Vietnam at 5pm on August 25 (Vietnam time). This is a crucial match for both Germany and Vietnam. Winning this match will likely open up the opportunity to win second place in the group. The German team is rated higher thanks to its experience and squad depth, but coach Bregoli himself is cautious: "We are fully focused on the first two matches. We want and can win, but it will certainly not be easy."
