A GREAT COMPOSITION
Mixed martial arts - as its name suggests - is the synthesis and crystallization of various types of unarmed combat techniques. Looking at MMA fighters competing, it is easy to see the powerful kicks of taekwondo, the diverse punches of boxing, the "pillar-breaking" sweeping kicks and the knee or elbow strikes of muay, the takedowns of judo, and even the chokeholds of ju-jitsu... MMA has almost no limits on martial arts skills, as long as it brings the highest efficiency in actual combat. Removing the limits of the competition rules of many other combat sports, MMA is especially attractive, helping not only the fighters to express themselves but also the audience to always be ready to explode with emotions following the moves or unexpected developments.
MMA is growing strongly in Vietnam

The "more relaxed" competition rules do not mean that MMA allows fighters to fight in a "jungle" style, but is still full of the spirit of martial arts such as prohibiting eye pokes, hitting the groin, the back of the neck, and kicking when the opponent is on the floor... The fierce nature of MMA, along with the provocations before the matches, is only to create more attraction, not to encourage hatred and bitterness.
MMA is highly entertaining. Looking at how professional MMA organizations like UFC, ONE Championship, Bellator, or LION Championship (VN) conduct “fight nights” (evening events), you can see the vibrant atmosphere of top professional boxing events that have a history spanning centuries. From sound, light, impressive athlete introductions to promotion, media, live commentary of matches… all make MMA events fascinating events.
MMA and n ABUNDANT HUMAN RESOURCES
MMA has been introduced to Vietnam for over a decade, quietly and spontaneously. MMA has built a community of martial arts fans and is looking forward to something new. But it was not until the Vietnam MMA Federation (VMMAF) was established in 2020 that the MMA training and competition movement really became organized and oriented.
MMA was introduced to Vietnam and warmly welcomed.
MMA matches are very exciting
MMA does not have its own training system from the "nursery" level like many other martial arts, but is a "common playground" that attracts fighters from different martial arts to experience, try their hand and then stick with it. Therefore, for a country with a martial arts tradition, especially with hundreds of martial arts that have existed and developed strongly like Vietnam, this is a very abundant source of human resources for MMA. All the leading names of Vietnamese MMA in arenas such as LION Championship - the first professional MMA tournament held from 2022 or GMA (Vietnamese martial arts) all grew up from disciplines such as traditional martial arts, ju-jitsu, wushu (sanshou fighting content) or muay.
The image of Vietnamese-origin fighters achieving initial success in arenas such as UFC or ONE Championship is also a great encouragement for domestic fighters. And the biggest dream of most MMA fighters when choosing to stick with it is not only to compete in more domestic tournaments but also to assert themselves in the international arena, the highest being UFC - the world's top professional tournament for over 3 decades.
The inclusion of MMA in the competition program of ASIAD 20 in 2026 as well as many other major events such as the 2025 Asian Youth Games, the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games or the 33rd SEA Games later this year... have all opened up great opportunities for Vietnamese MMA to have more investment and development with the resonance from local state management agencies of physical education and sports.
The great potential in Vietnam as well as the strong development trend of MMA in the world are all too clear, all are the support for those working in MMA in Vietnam to be confident, aiming for the rise of this martial art in the near future!
"MMA GIRL " CAUSES A STORM ON THE INTERNET
Recently, the story of an "MMA girl" who responded appropriately to the bullying behavior of a tattooed young man has inspired the youth to practice martial arts in general and MMA in particular. As the girl herself said, practicing martial arts is to become stronger and have the ability to protect oneself, not to be "aggressive" or bully others, showing how well the martial arts spirit of MMA has spread.
