MU earned less than half the money spent to recruit Antony. |
According to British media, Antony will return to La Liga after an impressive half-season loan at Real Betis in 2024/25, with 9 goals and 5 assists. Initially, MU wanted to sell Antony for a large sum of money, but prolonged negotiations led to a one-season loan deal.
Betis agreed to pay £3m to reunite with Antony, while the £33m buyout clause will only be exercised in 2026. The total value of the deal when completed will reach £36m - much lower than the £82m MU spent to buy Antony from Ajax in 2022.
In addition to Antony, the group of players on the list of players to be sold this summer also includes Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia. Previously, Marcus Rashford was removed from the squad plan by Amorim but luckily found his way to Aston Villa and now Barcelona.
Antony was expected to shine but scored just 12 goals in 96 games at Old Trafford and quickly became redundant. The Brazilian star now aims to prove himself at Betis and aim for a place at the 2026 World Cup under coach Carlo Ancelotti.
On the contrary, MU reduced the burden of the wage bill to have more money to cover the transfer fee. Antony is said to have packed his bags and left Manchester. The deal to join Betis will be announced soon this week.
