The 2025-2026 season of the Champions League continues to affirm its position as the most prestigious and "lucrative" club arena on the planet. The total prize money announced is up to a whopping 2.47 billion euros.

This is the second consecutive year that the tournament has adopted a new 36-team classification format. The change not only brings new expertise but also creates a strong financial boost for participating teams.

According to the economic criteria set by UEFA for the three-year cycle 2024 - 2027, the profit for the teams has increased by 21% compared to the old format. Just participating in the main round of the tournament, each team is guaranteed an income of up to 18.6 million euros.

Not only that, the competition results also bring valuable rewards with 2.1 million euros for each win and 0.7 million euros for a draw.

After the qualifying phase ends, teams will receive an additional bonus based on their final ranking, ranging from 0.7 to 10 million euros.

The prize money gets more lucrative as teams progress through the knockout stages. Reaching the round of 16 will bring €11 million, reaching the quarter-finals €12.5 million, and the semi-finals €15 million.

The two best teams to reach the final will receive 18.5 million euros, and the champions will be awarded an additional 25 million euros for finishing top.

A notable point in UEFA's financial allocation structure is the introduction of the "value pillar". This fund has a total value of up to 850 million euros, used to reward clubs that create the greatest commercial attraction. Especially those teams that have performed well in the Champions League over the past decade.

This brings significant financial advantages to European football powers such as Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich or PSG.

When all the revenues are added up, the winning team could earn a total of nearly 200 million euros.

This sharp increase in profits comes from the new format having more matches, leading to a surge in television rights value. This is also seen as a strategy by UEFA to please the big clubs, thereby strengthening the position of the Champions League against the threat of breakaway projects such as the Super League.

Not only the Champions League, lower-level tournaments such as the Europa League and Conference League also recorded record prize money, with the prize fund being supplemented by 100 million euros and 50 million euros respectively compared to before.
