Amorim returned to Carrington from 7am |
After returning to Carrington training ground at around 1am, the squad were back at work on Thursday afternoon to prepare for their home game against Burnley at the weekend.
Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount, Benjamin Sesko, Matthijs De Ligt and captain Bruno Fernandes all drove in at 11am, after a truly harrowing night for the club. The players looked dejected, and it was no wonder that both Mbeumo and Cunha missed penalties, with the defeat being regarded as one of the greatest humiliations in Manchester United’s history.
Although they arrived on time, they were still four hours late for coach Amorim, who had been there since 7am to prepare for a team meeting after publicly criticising his players last night.

Amorim still started the familiar work |
The Portuguese, who was visibly frustrated and stressed at Grimsby, has been heavily criticised and has apologised to fans before taking aim at his players, who are under pressure.
“I think the better team won, the only team that was actually on the pitch. Our team didn’t,” said Amorim. “The best players can lose, because a united team can beat any group of stars. Today, the Grimsby team and their players spoke out loud.”
Amorim believes that the way MU entered the game without any determination, lost all the ideas about pressing, and completely lost their way. Amorim admits that it is impossible to change everything in just one summer and emphasizes: "This is the limit, it is time for a change. For now, we need to focus on the match at the weekend, then we will have time to think."
