On the morning of August 27, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a meeting with overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

At the program, more than 50 overseas Vietnamese visited the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, listened to the introduction of the exhibition "Achievements of the country on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam", the exhibition "80 years of Vietnam's diplomacy " and the exhibition of cultural and artistic works of overseas Vietnamese with the theme "Vietnam in the eyes of overseas Vietnamese".

Overseas Vietnamese also participated in exchanges and conversations with researchers and historical speakers, discovering untold stories and heroic milestones of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Through the activities, overseas Vietnamese have the opportunity to review the heroic history of our nation, enhance patriotism, national pride, consolidate and foster confidence in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. At the same time, overseas Vietnamese also have a cozy space to exchange and connect.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai - Deputy Chief of Office of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that throughout the history of the nation, especially the years of resistance and nation building, President Ho Chi Minh always remembered our overseas compatriots, those who were loyal to the Fatherland.

Our Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community, an important factor contributing to strengthening the cooperative and friendly relations between our country and other countries.

Overseas Vietnamese resources have been and are being strongly promoted, especially in the cause of building and protecting the sovereignty of the homeland's seas and islands.

According to Ms. Mai, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a super city, an economic - industrial - logistics center of Southeast Asia, with a vision of "1 space - 3 regions".

Ho Chi Minh City also aims to become a "livable" place through a strong commitment to investment in healthcare, education, public health care, and physical and intellectual development for the younger generation.

To achieve the above goals, as General Secretary To Lam emphasized, Ho Chi Minh City needs to strongly mobilize all resources, including knowledge, finance and solidarity from the overseas Vietnamese community.

With nearly 3 million Vietnamese people connected to Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of overseas Vietnamese worldwide, and more than 2.2 million people living in leading economic, scientific and technological centers, the overseas Vietnamese community is a huge resource.

In the second quarter of 2025, remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached 2.82 billion USD.

According to Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, remittances to Ho Chi Minh City every year always account for 40-53% of the total remittances nationwide. In 2024, this figure will reach about 10.3 billion USD, an increase of 140 million USD compared to 2023. Notably, in the second quarter of 2025, remittances reached nearly 2.82 billion USD, an increase of 17% compared to the previous quarter.

"This is not only a valuable financial resource but also a clear demonstration of overseas Vietnamese's trust and attachment to their homeland," said Ms. Mai.

To continue promoting this resource, Ho Chi Minh City has approved the project "Policy to effectively promote remittance resources in Ho Chi Minh City from now until 2030", creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to participate in investment, production, business and contribute to other important areas.

In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to perfect policies and guidelines to create the most favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to contribute to key economic and social programs.
