Earn billions from goat farming

BAC NINH - In recent years, thanks to applying reasonable goat raising methods and choosing good breeds, many households in Xuan Luong commune (Bac Ninh) have had high incomes, with some households earning more than 1 billion VND/year.

At the end of August, Mr. Nguyen Van Truong's family in Dong Gia village, Xuan Luong commune, prepared to sell their herd of goats. Mr. Truong said: "Since the beginning of the year, my family has sold nearly 54 tons of commercial goats. Due to the high selling price, my family estimates a profit of more than 1 billion VND, 400 million VND higher than last year."

It is known that Mr. Truong's family has raised goats since 2016. At first, they were mainly domestic goats, which were small and free-range on the hills, often sick, and slow to grow. In 2021, after visiting the model in Bo Ha commune, Mr. Truong invested in building airy barns to raise goats. The goat breed was also replaced with imported breeds, mainly the Boer breed from Thailand. The source of food for goats includes: elephant grass, banana trees, corn, and rice bran. Banana trees and corn are fed fresh; elephant grass is chopped, fermented with probiotics, and mixed with rice bran for goats to eat. "The biggest fear of raising goats is diarrhea. However, since feeding goats with wine and beer lees, it has a preventive effect," Mr. Truong shared his experience.

Because goat farming is profitable, in recent years, Mr. Truong's family has sold about 3-4 batches each year; each batch has 400-500 goats, becoming a large-scale goat farming household in the commune. According to Mr. Truong, the current consumption market is quite favorable, there are almost no goats for sale. Traders from many provinces and cities come to buy such as: Hanoi , Phu Tho, Hung Yen...

In fact, not only Mr. Truong's family, currently in Xuan Luong commune there are about 30 households raising goats in the above form, with a scale of hundreds of goats/year/household; concentrated in the villages: Nghe, Dong Gian, Dong Gia and Lang Duoi. The total income from raising goats of households in the whole commune reaches tens of billions of VND. Mr. Le Hong Viet, Chairman of Xuan Luong Commune People's Committee said: "In the coming time, we will continue to pay attention to directing the expansion of the goat raising model. In particular, establishing cooperatives and cooperatives to create conditions for accessing preferential loans, exchanging, learning techniques and consuming products; aiming to build a collective brand "Xuan Luong Goat" to increase product value".
