Before the draw, the organizers determined in advance whether the eight Premier League teams participating in the Champions League and Europa League would play home or away in the third round. These teams were seeded and drawn earlier than the rest but could not face each other, to avoid scheduling problems.

Round three will be played over two weeks to avoid clashing with European fixtures, and Crystal Palace are not seeded as the Conference League only starts in October.
