This year, the most notable film is Shu Qi's debut. After decades of stirring up the domestic and international film industry with roles that left an impression with their naturalness and refined acting, the Taiwanese star will be coming to Venice for the first time in a new role with the film Girl , which she wrote and directed.
The film is set in the 1980s, revolving around the main character Lam Tieu Le, who grew up in poverty and wanted to change her fate. When she met Ly Le Le - a woman with an independent and free personality, not afraid to break stereotypes, Tieu Le made a new decision. However, this conflicted with the past of her mother - A Quyen.
The film is critically acclaimed as a work full of femininity and deep inner emotions. Shu Qi is actually no stranger to the Venice Film Festival, having walked the red carpet many times and also being a judge for the main category here in 2023.
