On the evening of August 25, the Vietnam U16 women's team defeated Myanmar 2-0 in the final round of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship held in Surakarta city (Indonesia).
Before this match, both teams won their opening matches. The Vietnam U16 women's team defeated Cambodia 5-0, while the Myanmar U16 women's team defeated Cambodia 4-1.
Therefore, both Vietnam and Myanmar U16 women's teams must achieve the best results in the final round to win the top spot in the group and a direct ticket to the semi-finals. Otherwise, one of the two teams can only hope to wait for the wild card ticket for the second-placed team with the best results in the 3 groups.
Playing an important match, coach Okiyama Masahiko made 4 changes to the starting lineup compared to the match against Cambodia. Despite dominating the first half, the U16 women's team of Vietnam still could not score.
Even when the Vietnam U16 women's team was awarded a penalty in the 55th minute because defender Pin Myint Yan let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area, Ngoc Anh also failed to kick.

Coach Okiyama Masahiko continued to make personnel adjustments in the 62nd minute in search of a goal. 7 minutes after this change, the Vietnam U16 women's team had another penalty kick. Le Thi Hong Thai did not miss the opportunity to score the opening goal.
Not stopping there, the U16 women's team of Vietnam was awarded a third penalty in the 85th minute, when a Myanmar defender committed a foul in the penalty area. This time, Ngoc Anh was assigned to take the penalty kick again and successfully executed it, securing a 2-0 victory for the home team.
Defeating Myanmar, the Vietnam U16 women's team won a ticket to the semi-finals with the top spot in Group B after 2 wins.
Speaking after the match, coach Okiyama Masahiko said the result was exactly as he predicted.
He said: "Before the match, we predicted it would be a difficult match. In the first half, we created many opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. In the second half, the players regained their spirit and tried their best. As a result, we won 2-0."
The opponent of the U16 women's team of Vietnam in the semi-final match on August 27 will be Thailand, the second-placed team in Group C with the best record. With the same 3 points as Myanmar and Malaysia (Group A), Thailand won the ticket to the next round thanks to a better goal difference.
