On the afternoon of June 26, the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City officially announced the 10th grade benchmark scores in 2025 of public high schools in the area.
Many top schools fall in rank
According to benchmark data released by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the top 10 schools with the highest 10th grade benchmark scores in the city are missing a number of well-known schools. Meanwhile, a number of schools have risen to the top positions.
Specifically, although newly established, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1) has the highest 10th grade benchmark score with 24.5 points for the first choice, an increase of 4.5 points compared to last year. Also in the top group are: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (23.75 points), Tran Phu High School (22.75 points - a slight decrease compared to 23.25 points last year) and Bui Thi Xuan High School (22.25 points).
The most surprising schools are Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District), Nguyen Huu Huan High School (Thu Duc City), Phu Nhuan High School (Phu Nhuan District) and Nguyen Huu Cau High School (Hoc Mon District) when they are all absent from the ranking of schools with high admission scores. Last year, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School led the ranking with 24.25 points (down 1.25 points compared to 2023); followed by 3 schools with 23.25 points - including Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Nguyen Huu Huan High School, and Tran Phu High School.

The most disappointing drop in ranking is that of Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District) - a famous school, always in the top of the highest scores in previous years. This year, the school's benchmark score is only 18.75, a decrease of 4.25 points compared to last year.
Meanwhile, many schools have made big changes, moving from the group with good scores last year to the group with high scores this year, such as Tay Thanh High School, Luong The Vinh High School, Binh Phu High School, Nam Sai Gon High School, Tran Hung Dao High School, Ly Thuong Kiet High School, and Tan Binh High School.
This year's 10th grade benchmark scores have recorded the biggest decline in recent years. Some public schools only require candidates to score more than 3 points/subject to pass 10th grade. Specifically, the top schools with the lowest 10th grade benchmark scores (10.5) are Nguyen Thi Dieu High School, Ngo Gia Tu High School, Nguyen Van Linh High School, Long Truong High School, Nguyen Van Tang High School, Tan Tuc High School...
Difficult to recruit additional
The decrease in admission scores at most top schools surprised many educational institutions because previously, the average score for this year's 10th grade exam was high, and it was predicted that admission scores would increase.
According to the principal of a high school, this year the number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City has decreased sharply by nearly 26,000 students compared to previous years. The number of candidates taking the exam has decreased, but the enrollment quota for 10th grade this year is the highest compared to previous years. Therefore, although the exam scores are relatively high, schools will have to recruit enough to meet the set quota, so it is understandable why many schools have relatively low admission scores.
"This makes it very difficult to recruit more students because the scores in all three choices of some schools are very low, and it will be difficult for candidates to fail all three choices in this exam," said the above principal.
Last year, after the 10th grade enrollment period ended, according to regulations, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training based on schools that still lacked enrollment quotas and had wishes to recruit additional students and submitted them to the Steering Committee for the 2025 entrance exams to wait for official instructions. However, the additional enrollment only applies to schools with needs, schools without needs will not recruit additional students, especially only recruiting additional students who failed all 3 regular wishes.
All candidates who have passed the entrance exam, regardless of whether they have submitted their application or not, will not be processed in the supplementary round. At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City will only recruit additional candidates and will absolutely not lower the 10th grade benchmark.
Admission confirmation timelines
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that by 4:00 p.m. on July 1, candidates can confirm online enrollment in high schools of all remaining types at: https://ts10.hcm.edu.vn.
Before 10:00 a.m. on June 28, the Department of Education and Training will collect the secondary school review records and submit them to the Examination and Quality Control Department - Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
From July 3 to 10, successful candidates in all types of admission will carry out admission procedures directly at the confirmed high school through the online system.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training notes that in case of failure to complete admission procedures, candidates will be considered eliminated from the admission list.
It is expected that on July 11, Ho Chi Minh City will announce the results of the review. From July 12 to 14, additional admissions will be considered for those admitted after the review. On July 22, high schools will report the need and number of additional admissions for grade 10 (if any).
