Building a learning society is a noble mission in the new era.

On the morning of July 10, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong had a friendly meeting with a delegation of outstanding officials from the National Association for Promotion of Education.

Also attending were Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan; Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; former Vice President, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education Nguyen Thi Doan and leaders of many central ministries and branches.

Nearly three decades of spreading the spirit of learning

Reporting at the meeting, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education Nguyen Thi Doan said that the Association was established in 1996, with three main functions: launching a lifelong learning movement; supportingeducational activities; and acting as the core in building a learning society.

By the end of 2024, the country had nearly 27 million members of the Learning Promotion Association, with the Association's organizations established across communes, wards, villages, hamlets, schools, agencies, businesses and armed forces. In nearly 30 years of operation, the Association has contributed to advising on the development of many policies and strategies, creating a widespread influence for learning movements and effectively attracting socialized resources.

Honoring the silent contributions

Speaking at the meeting, President Luong Cuong praised those who have quietly contributed to the cause of "cultivating people". He highly appreciated the role of the Association for Promoting Education at all levels in improving people's knowledge, training human resources, and nurturing talents - key tasks that have received special attention from the Party and State since the August Revolution in 1945.

The President affirmed: "The Association has left many strong marks in the cause of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training". The results achieved are proof of the continuous efforts, dedication and creativity of the entire Association system.

Quoting Uncle Ho's words "For the benefit of ten years, plant trees, for the benefit of a hundred years, cultivate people", the President emphasized the key role of education in national development. He suggested that each individual, regardless of age or social status, should always consider education as their right, responsibility and obligation.

The President also mentioned the "Digital Literacy for All" movement launched by General Secretary To Lam, emphasizing the need for everyone to study regularly, study for life, not only to learn letters, but also to master science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, ... learn a trade, learn to be a human, learn to work, learn to live together and develop together in the community, contributing to preserving and promoting the tradition of studiousness of the Vietnamese people with thousands of years of culture and heroism.

Belief in a studious and powerful Vietnam

In line with major orientations such as the Green Growth Strategy (Decision 1658/QD-TTg) and central resolutions, the President requested that all levels of the Association study and apply them appropriately to their functions and tasks. Specifically, the Association needs to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training to develop community learning centers in the direction of digitalization and greening; build "Green Learning Promotion Units", "Green Schools", and gradually form "Green Learning Citizens".

At the same time, the President noted that building a learning society is not only the responsibility of the Association for Promotion of Learning but also a common task of the entire political system, Party committees, authorities and all people.

At the end of the meeting, the President affirmed that building Vietnam into a learning nation, in which every citizen has the opportunity to study and is encouraged to study for life, is not only a humanitarian goal, but also an important requirement to enhance national competitiveness, develop talents and strengthen the nation's internal strength. This is a great challenge, but also a noble mission that the team of people working in promoting learning and talent are undertaking on the front line.

The President believes that, with enthusiasm and courage, leaders of the Association for Promoting Education at all levels nationwide will continue to maintain the flame of knowledge in the community, contributing to building a dynamic and aspirational learning society, laying the foundation for a fast, sustainable and prosperous Vietnam.
