"The total number of orders today is more than 80 kg of Norwegian crab, but the wholesale warehouse only delivered 50 kg to me, the rest is scheduled for the next day," said Ms. Vu Huyen - an online agricultural product seller in Tu Liem ward ( Hanoi ).
Ms. Huyen said that this time, imported super-rotten crabs are surprisingly cheap, only 270,000 - 280,000 VND/kg for the type weighing 0.8 - 1 kg/crab. This is a rare cheap price, because super-rotten brown crabs imported from Norway are usually sold for about 400,000 VND/kg for the frozen type.
Not to mention, the quality of each crab is guaranteed, and the customer can exchange the crab 1 for 1 if the crab is damaged or has a bad shell.
According to Ms. Huyen, Norwegian brown crabs weigh 2-3 times more than Vietnamese sea crabs. This imported crab has a lot of roe, little meat but is very firm. Moreover, the crab price is cheap so customers compete to order it to eat.
“Most of the orders are 3-4 crabs. Thanks to that, I consume about 50-80 kg per day,” she said. Some trips have enough goods to pay for pre-orders, but sometimes the wholesale warehouse only delivers limited quantities, leaving her without enough crabs to share with customers.
At online seafood markets, live brown crabs cost between 720,000-800,000 VND/kg, while frozen Norwegian brown crabs are sold everywhere at a common price of 230,000-280,000 VND/kg.
Because of the cheap price, under each post selling frozen brown crab with super roe, hundreds of customers ask for advice on quality and place orders.
Some owners said that Norwegian brown crabs have appeared in the Vietnamese market for many years. The characteristics of this type of crab are that its body is dark brown, its shell is large and flat, and it has a lot of roe. Brown crabs are larger than Vietnamese sea crabs. During the season, brown crabs are caught a lot in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean in the Norwegian Sea.
The weight of Norwegian brown crabs imported to Vietnam mostly ranges from 400 grams/crab to 1.2 kg/crab. Accordingly, crabs weighing 0.8-1 kg/crab are in the large crab size segment.
Notably, the price of 230,000-280,000 VND per 1kg of brown crab, size 0.8-1kg/crab, is considered the "rock bottom" price since this item was imported and sold in the Vietnamese market.
According to statistics from the Customs Department, in June 2025 alone, our country spent more than 32 million USD to import seafood from Norway. In the first 6 months of this year, the cumulative import turnover of seafood products from Norway reached 175 million USD, an increase of 14.3% over the same period in 2024.
Brown crab is one of the Norwegian seafood products imported to Vietnam in live and frozen form. This product is widely sold in imported seafood stores and online seafood markets.
