For discharging wastewater into the environment exceeding technical standards on waste, Mekong Wood Joint Stock Company was fined 624 million VND.
After receiving the test results of wastewater samples discharged directly into the environment, overflowing around manholes, seeping into the ground... at the Mekong wood factory area in Cam Khe industrial park, Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee Phan Trong Tan signed and issued Decision No. 1682/QD-UBND, sanctioning administrative violations in the field of environmental protection against Mekong MDF Wood Joint Stock Company (referred to as Mekong wood factory).
Specifically, the act of discharging wastewater containing normal environmental parameters into the environment exceeding technical standards on waste by 10 times or more in the case of discharging wastewater from 60 m3/day (24 hours) to less than 80 m3/day (24 hours) with a fine of 260 million VND.

At the same time, the fine will increase by 50% for the Total Nitrogen parameter exceeding the technical standard from 10 times or more, 130 million VND; the fine will increase by 40% for the COD parameter exceeding the technical standard from 5 times to less than 10 times, 104 million VND; the fine will increase by 20% for the BOD5 parameter exceeding the technical standard from 1.5 times to less than 3 times, 52 million VND.
The fine increased by 20% for the Color parameter exceeding the technical standard from 1.5 times to less than 3 times, 52 million VND; the fine increased by 10% for the Mineral Oil parameter exceeding the technical standard from 1.1 times to less than 1.5 times, 26 million VND. Thus, the total fine for Mekong MDF Wood Joint Stock Company is 624 million VND.
The wastewater is black, scum-filled and smells bad.
Along with that, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province requested MDF Mekong Wood Joint Stock Company to immediately stop the above violations, stop discharging wastewater that does not meet the permitted standards to the wastewater connection point; strictly comply with the law on environmental protection. The time limit for implementing remedial measures is 30 days from the date of receiving the decision.
