Honoring 38 outstanding Vietnamese female scientists

(NLDO) - 38 outstanding Vietnamese female scientists who received the "For the Development of Women in Science" Science Award, including three who were awarded the International Promising Young Talent Award, were recently honored in Hanoi.


At the 15th anniversary celebration of the L'Oréal - UNESCO Science Awards Program "For Women in Science" held in Hanoi , female scientists who received awards from 2009 to 2023 were awarded commemorative medals for their great contributions to Vietnamese science in particular and to the world in general.

Outstanding Vietnamese female scientists honored

On this occasion, they also took the time to share and inspire the next generation of young female scientists to pursue the path of changing the world through science.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Lidia Brito, UNESCO Deputy Director-General for Natural Sciences, emphasized that these female scientists have become role models, inspiring future generations of girls and women to pursue careers in science and technology.

“Their work demonstrates the power of female leadership in science and is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when women are given the opportunity to thrive,” said Lidia Brito.

The L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards was established to honor outstanding female scientists and promote gender equality in the research field. It is also a way to promote human resources and scientific capacity to address the major challenges of our time.

The annual award brings together outstanding Vietnamese female scientists, whose pioneering research contributes to changing the world through the development of new scientific applications and important research works in areas such as health, food security, environment, and many others.

Female scientists who have inspired the next generation of young female scientists

Since its inception in Vietnam, the award has honored and awarded research scholarships to 38 talented young female scientists from Vietnam, three of whom were awarded the International Promising Young Talent Award in 2015, 2018 and 2022 for their outstanding contributions in the fields of Life Sciences and Materials Sciences.

The program has supported scientists to continue pursuing their passion for science and go further in their research careers, contributing to narrowing the gender gap in science.
