At a regular press conference on the afternoon of July 3, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's viewpoint and reaction to information about Chinese ships conducting illegal survey activities in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: "Foreign research and survey activities in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf - established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) - without Vietnam's permission violate Vietnam's sovereignty and jurisdiction.

Vietnamese authorities always closely follow developments in the East Sea and at the same time deploy measures in accordance with international law and Vietnamese law, ensuring Vietnam's legitimate rights and interests."
