On October 3, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly's Committee on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs discussed the issue of promoting the advancement of women.

At the meeting, the majority of countries commented that the promotion of women’s role and participation in all areas of social life is showing signs of regression. Women are still the ones most affected by the current intertwined and multi-dimensional crises.

Counselor Le Thi Minh Thoa spoke at the discussion session.

Speaking at the discussion, Counsellor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, shared the view that women in many parts of the world are facing health problems, loss or reduction of income, lagging behind in access to knowledge, employment opportunities and integration, and are victims of gender-based violence.

Meanwhile, digital transformation and global economic trends are both solutions and, on the one hand, pose the risk of exacerbating vulnerabilities for women.

Regarding recommended solutions, the Vietnamese representative said that it is necessary to promote international cooperation to support countries in implementing international commitments to ensure the full, equal and meaningful participation of women and girls in all areas of social life, contributing to preventing violence and discrimination.

In the context of digital transformation, it is also necessary to focus on improving the quality of female workers in digital skills, promoting the role of women in developing the digital economy. In addition, it is necessary to create favorable conditions for women and girls to develop careers in science and technology, and protect women's rights in the digital environment.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese representative highlighted the results and achievements Vietnam has made in ensuring women's rights and gender equality in policy making, law making and development strategies. Notably, Vietnam has a high proportion of female parliamentarians and female leaders, ensuring employment for women, and gender balance in digital skills.

Vietnam affirms that it will continue to cooperate with the international community to promote gender equality and women's advancement.
