PSG showed their superior class when they crushed Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 in the round of 16 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which took place in Atlanta last weekend.
The resounding victory not only helped coach Luis Enrique and his team secure a ticket to the quarter-finals, but also affirmed their position as the top candidate for the championship this year.
Young star Joao Neves scored twice in the first half, while an own goal from Tomas Aviles and a decisive goal from Achraf Hakimi in the second half completely extinguished the MLS representative's hopes. Under constant pressure and a one-sided game imposed by PSG, Inter Miami had almost no chance to fight back.
After a historic treble in the 2024/25 season, the French capital team has maintained a near-perfect form at the FIFA Club World Cup with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. They are also leading the tournament in average possession (72%), successful passes (2,888), and have conceded the fewest goals (just 1 goal).
However, coach Luis Enrique is still cautious: "The important thing now is to recover physically and prepare carefully. We need to be in the best condition for the confrontation with Bayern, an opponent that PSG has always had many difficulties with in the past."
On the other side of the front line, Bayern Munich is gradually asserting its comeback. After losing 0-1 to Benfica and finishing second in Group C, the "Gray Tigers" defeated Flamengo with a score of 4-2 in an emotional match.
Captain Harry Kane's brace, an own goal from Erick Pulgar and a beautiful long-range shot from Leon Goretzka helped Bayern end the Brazilian representative's 11-match unbeaten streak, thereby securing a ticket to the quarter-finals.
With the goal of conquering the FIFA Club World Cup title for the third time, and the first since 2020, Bayern are showing great determination. Coach Vincent Kompany said: "The match against PSG will be a big challenge, but the whole team will be ready to shine. The most important thing now is to recover physically and prepare mentally for the battle ahead."
Despite playing in the sweltering weather of the US, Bayern have maintained a strong and effective pressing style. They are the top scorers in the tournament (16), including 10 against Auckland City, leading the way in high-altitude ball wins (56) and pressing sequences (68), and second in final-third passes (955).
In their last nine meetings with Bayern, all in the Champions League, PSG have won just two and lost seven. The most recent was a 0-1 away defeat in the Champions League group stage in November 2024, a match in which PSG played with 10 men. However, the French side went on to win the Champions League for the first time.
