Hai Phong city has 4 grade I hospitals, all of which are the city's final hospitals.

After the merger, Hai Phong City has only 4 grade I hospitals. They are: Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Kien An Hospital, Hai Duong General Hospital, and Hai Duong Lung Hospital.

To be ranked Grade I, these hospitals must meet five groups of standards, scored from 90 to 100 points on a 100-point scale. The evaluation criteria include location, functions, tasks; scale and content of activities; human resources, professional capacity; infrastructure and equipment.

After the merger and reorganization, Hai Phong City has 19 city-level hospitals and 5 regional general hospitals. The city also has 11 affiliated centers responsible for preventive medicine , medical examination, care for the meritorious... and 27 regional medical centers providing medical examination, treatment and preventive medicine.
