According to the 2025 high school graduation exam regulations, the formula for calculating graduation recognition scores includes the scores of the subjects the candidate takes the exam for (accounting for 50%); the average score (GPA) of grades 10, 11 and 12 (accounting for 50%) and priority and incentive points.
The Ministry of Education and Training explained that the increase in the rate of using transcripts from 30% to 50% is to more closely assess learners' abilities according to the new general education program, including many other abilities that the graduation exam does not fully assess.
The formula is as follows:

In which, the average score of the school years is calculated according to the following formula:

The average score for grades 10, 11 and 12 is the average score of all subjects assessed by scores.
This year, foreign language certificates will continue to be used to exempt from exams in graduation recognition, but will not be converted into 10 points in graduation recognition as before; the graduation score calculation formula does not include foreign language points in this case.
This approach continues to encourage foreign language learning but aims to be more equitable in graduation. For example, previously, students with an IELTS 4.0 certificate were also converted to a score of 10, just like students with an IELTS 8.5 score.

How to calculate high school graduation scores in 2025.
With priority points, candidates will be added from 0.25 to 0.5 points if they are children of war invalids, sick soldiers, heroes of the people's armed forces, heroes of labor, ethnic minorities, people infected with toxic chemicals... Candidates with many priority criteria will enjoy the highest criteria, not cumulative.
Candidates will receive 1-2 bonus points if they win prizes in provincial-level competitions for excellent students or higher, practical experiments, arts, sports, science and technology competitions, etc. Similar to bonus points, candidates will only receive bonus points for the highest prize, even if they win many prizes.
From 2025, the Ministry will eliminate the addition of points for vocational certificates for all candidates; eliminate the addition of points for IT certificates, foreign languages, and intermediate vocational degrees for candidates in the regulareducation system.
Candidates who are eligible to take the exam, have not been disciplined to the extent of having their results revoked, and have achieved more than 1 point in all subjects, will be considered for graduation. If the score considered according to the above formula is 5 or higher, the student will be recognized as graduating from high school.
2025 is the year when the first batch of students following the new general education program will take their graduation exams. At 8:00 a.m. on July 16, examination councils and Departments of Education and Training across the country will announce the results of the high school graduation exam, one day earlier than last year (last year it was July 17).
