According to Yonhap , a South Korean court on July 10 issued an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol in connection with the declaration of martial law late last year. He is currently being held at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, south of the capital, and will not attend today's trial.
Yoon's lawyer filed a reason for his absence with the Seoul Central District Court just before the 10th trial was scheduled to begin.

This is the second time Mr. Yoon has been arrested. The first time was in January 2025, although he was released in March after the court accepted his request to cancel the arrest warrant.
Only Mr. Yoon's lawyer is expected to attend today's hearing. Mr. Yoon is charged with sedition and recently appeared in court to contest some of the charges.
If convicted of rebellion, former President Yoon could face a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.
Previously, on April 4, the Constitutional Court of South Korea ruled to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office for declaring martial law in December 2024.
