Da Nang People's Committee of Hoang Sa district received two photos of the arrest and return of Chinese fishermen who illegally entered Hoang Sa archipelago 65 years ago.
On the morning of January 19, Mr. Vo Ngoc Dong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district, received two photos related to the law enforcement of the Republic of Vietnam government in Hoang Sa archipelago from the Da Nang City Historical Science Association. These two photos were collected at the National Archives Center II (HCMC).

The first photo captures the scene of the security force arresting Chinese fishermen who violated Vietnam's sovereignty at Quang Hoa Island, part of the Hoang Sa archipelago, on February 24, 1959. The second photo, taken at Da Nang port on February 26, 1959, captures the scene of representatives of the Republic of Vietnam government releasing Chinese fishermen who illegally entered the Hoang Sa archipelago.
The two photos were presented to the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of China's use of force to occupy the Hoang Sa archipelago under Vietnam's sovereignty (January 19, 1974). "This is valuable historical and legal evidence for us to continue to fight to affirm Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago," said Mr. Bui Van Tieng, Chairman of the Da Nang City Historical Science Association.

Previously, on January 11, the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district visited the witnesses who lived, worked, and protected the Hoang Sa archipelago, and burned incense to pay tribute to the deceased. The district also presented the families of the witnesses with a Hoang Sa document, which includes portraits, biographies, and memoirs of those who had set foot here before and during the time of China's occupation.

On January 19, 1974, China unilaterally used force to seize the Hoang Sa archipelago under Vietnam's sovereignty from the Republic of Vietnam soldiers who were on a mission to protect and survey the archipelago. Today, China has illegally built many structures on the archipelago.
