Promoting agricultural development cooperation between Vietnam and FAO

On July 9, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister Ngo Le Van received Mr. Vinod Kumar Ahujah, the new Chief Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Vietnam, who came to present his credentials on the occasion of starting his term of office in Vietnam.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van congratulated Mr. Ahujah on his appointment as FAO Representative in Vietnam and believed that with his professional experience, Mr. Ahajuh would actively contribute to promoting the good development of the Vietnam - FAO cooperation relationship.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister thanked FAO for providing 1.9 million USD in support to Vietnamese people affected by Typhoon Yagi last September.

The Deputy Minister also welcomed FAO's support in building the "Food System Transformation Partnership", restructuring the agricultural sector, developing smart agriculture, adapting to climate change, digital transformation in agriculture, promoting South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation. The Deputy Minister affirmed that FAO has always been an important partner of Vietnam and emphasized that the visit of the FAO Director-General in February 2025 was a testament to this good relationship.

The Deputy Minister asked Mr. Ahajuh, during his term, to continue sharing experience and knowledge, supporting the transfer of high and environmentally friendly technology in the agricultural sector, transforming the food system, supporting Vietnam in accessing financial resources and promoting Vietnam's participation in South-South and trilateral agricultural projects. The Deputy Minister also affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will actively coordinate with the FAO Office in Vietnam and the Representative Office, especially in implementing the Vietnam - FAO Cooperation Framework 2022-2026.

Speaking at the reception, Mr. Vinod Ahujah welcomed Vietnam's development achievements in recent years. He also highly appreciated the Vietnamese Government's active support for FAO activities, especially South-South cooperation projects, cooperation between Vietnam-FAO and African countries. He thanked Vietnam for hosting the High-Level Regional Experience Exchange Forum on the One Country-One Commune One Product (OCOP) model from July 14-17.

Mr. Vinod Ahujad acknowledged Vietnam's proposals and affirmed that Vietnam's priorities will certainly be reflected in the Vietnam-FAO Cooperation Framework for the period 2026-2030. He affirmed that he will actively cooperate to jointly implement Vietnam's priorities in agricultural development.
