Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after a recent meeting of right-wing figures at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida that the Republican frontrunner would not provide financial aid to Ukraine to counter Russia if he is re-elected US president.

Speaking to Hungarian state media on March 10, Prime Minister Orban said: “Mr. Trump will not spend a single cent on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Therefore, this conflict will end, because it is clear that Ukraine cannot stand on its own two feet.”

Earlier, on March 8, Mr. Orban and former President Donald Trump met at Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The meeting was criticized by US President Joe Biden.

In an interview on the sidelines of the meeting, the Hungarian prime minister praised Mr. Trump, the leading Republican candidate, as a “man of peace ” and hoped Mr. Trump would end the conflict in Ukraine.

Mr. Orban believes that if the US and Europe do not provide money and weapons to Ukraine, the conflict will end. Europe alone cannot provide enough funding to Ukraine and the conflict will be forced to end.

According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, Mr. Trump has a “detailed plan” to end the conflict in Ukraine, which is in line with Hungary's interests.

Mr Orban has repeatedly opposed sending more money and weapons to Kiev (the capital of Ukraine). Hungary has maintained economic ties with Moscow since Russia began its military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022.

Mr. Trump is leading the candidates after the presidential primary election and is currently leading incumbent President Joe Biden of the Democratic Party in polls in seven key states, including Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Wisconsin.

Many EU leaders are concerned that if Mr. Trump is re-elected as US President, Washington will reduce military and financial aid to Ukraine and NATO. The $95 billion foreign aid package, including $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine, is stuck in the US House of Representatives due to opposition from the Republican Party.

Until now, Ukraine has relied heavily on arms aid from the United States and other Western allies to continue to resist Russia.
