On July 4, at the University of Education (University of Danang), the Ministry of Education and Training held a rally to respond to World Environment Day 2025 with the theme "Fighting plastic pollution", and launched a month of action for the environment in the entireeducation sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized that this year's theme is an urgent call in the context of plastic waste pollution becoming a global challenge, deeply affecting the ecosystem, public health and the future of the planet.

"With about 25 million students and about 1.3 million teachers, the education sector is not only an environment for imparting knowledge but also a core force in shaping a green lifestyle for the whole society," said Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc.

The Deputy Minister also said that the education sector has been strongly implementing environmental communication activities in a modern direction, applying technology and spreading green lifestyles, especially targeting the young generation - the pioneer in changing environmental protection behavior.

At the ceremony, the Ministry of Education and Training called on educational institutions to focus on three directions: Strengthening communication through social networks, videos , and infographics; incorporating environmental education into the curriculum and replicating the “plastic waste-free school” model; spreading green actions from officials, teachers, and students such as limiting plastic bags, using recycled products, and participating in environmental campaigns.

More information from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Meeting (SEAMEO) in Brunei, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said that ASEAN countries have agreed to choose the theme "Green Education" and implement it on 4 pillars: Completing the training program integrating environmental protection; building green - clean - beautiful schools; strengthening the connection between schools and the community; and forming a sustainable green culture in the whole society.

Vietnam has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, under the COP26 Agreement. The education sector is identified as a leading force in implementing the sustainable development strategy, focusing on promoting “green education” and changing the awareness and behavior of future generations regarding environmental protection.
