On June 26, a representative of Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital (HCMC) said that patient TKB (12 years old) - the case of unusual convulsions after the incident at the Angel Children's Shelter (commonly known as Angel Shelter, Long Truong Ward, Thu Duc City) - has been discharged from the hospital.
No seizures recorded when first brought home
Previously, at the end of May, baby B. was admitted to Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital with a diagnosis of partial movement epilepsy, behavioral disorder, and an open wound on the face that had been stitched.
According to the medical history, the child was adopted by a charity home at the age of 3. The patient had no history of febrile seizures or meningitis since childhood. In April 2024, the child was diagnosed with epilepsy, with symptoms of stiff limbs, loss of consciousness, and occasional talking and laughing to himself.

In July 2024, the child was admitted to Children's Hospital 2 with a diagnosis of partial epilepsy, behavioral disorders, and hippocampal fibrosis (damage to the hippocampus in the brain), with multiple seizures occurring every day. The child was treated for a period of time and discharged, with a prescription.
At Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, baby B. was treated for symptoms, monitored for seizures, had his wound bandages changed, and received intensive care in the Neurology Department. To date, the baby has been returned to the orphanage.
Speaking to reporters, the nanny (anonymous) in charge of taking care of the baby at the hospital said the baby was injured on May 24.
Specifically, while washing dishes with another friend living in the shelter, the child "accidentally got hit on the right cheek by a cooking shovel from the friend's hand" while playing (however, according to the report of the authorities, the child was beaten by the friend, leading to the injury).
The baby's caregiver also shared that when he was healthy, baby B. was very good at English and played some sports well.
When the reporter came to the hospital bed to ask about her health and what had happened earlier, the girl looked scared, replied "I don't know" and then continuously pointed at the nanny and turned her back to the corner of the wall.

Angel Shelter has many children with health problems
As Dan Tri reported, at 5:00 p.m. on May 31, the Thu Duc City Health Department received information from the hospital about the treatment of baby TKB with facial injuries, so it immediately coordinated with Long Truong ward authorities to go to the Angel Shelter (where the baby is being cared for) to verify.
Initially, authorities recorded that at 7:30 a.m. on May 24, B. and DKD (born in 2015), both living at the above facility, were washing dishes when they got into an argument.
used a shovel (about 80cm long, used for kitchens) to hit B. and caused a 10cm long cut on his left cheek. The child then had to get 6 stitches at a local hospital.
On May 28, B. had two unusual seizures in one day, so Mr. Bui Cong H., owner of the Angel Shelter, assigned staff to take the child to the Children's Mental Health Center for examination. After the examination, the doctor ordered the child to be hospitalized.
Notably, when the authorities arrived at the shelter, the camera system could not extract images and the storage drive was damaged.
Before the case of baby B., many children at the Angel shelter were found to have health problems.

In February 2024, a team of doctors from the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital visited this facility to conduct medical examinations, distribute medicine, and give gifts. During the examination, the doctors discovered that many children had skin diseases such as lice, atopic dermatitis, scabies, fungus, boils, etc.
The cause of the disease was recorded by doctors as being due to unsanitary and crowded living environments, which easily lead to infection. When examining the children's ears, noses, and throats, the team of doctors also discovered and treated many cases of foreign objects in the ears.
Last May, baby LMT at the orphanage was also taken to Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital for treatment, in a state of measles with complications of pneumonia, severe malnutrition, and bronchial asthma.
According to the report of Thu Duc City Health Department on May 31, Thien Than Children's Shelter was established under Decision No. 88/QD-UBND dated June 6, 2010 of the People's Committee of District 9 (old), currently caring for 129 children (including 62 girls).
Since 2022, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Thu Duc City (now the Department of Health of Thu Duc City) has guided the facility to complete the dossier according to Decree No. 103/2017/ND-CP. However, the facility has not yet completed the relevant dossier and procedures despite being supported and guided many times.
