The news that has recently caused a stir in public opinion is that Nam Dan 2 High School (Nghe An province) announced that the second round of 10th grade admission scores were only 2.5 points. This means that candidates only need an average of less than 1 point per subject to be admitted to a public high school.

According to the second round of admission announcement of Nam Dan 2 High School, the admission score is 2.5 points (including priority and incentive points if any). The admission target is students with a total admission score of 2.5 points or higher, who have submitted their first application to the school but have not been admitted in the first round.

The fact that a public high school has an admission score of only 2.5 points has made many people wonder about the quality of the input. On the evening of July 3, speaking with PNVN Newspaper, Mr. Pham Xuan Phu, Principal of Nam Dan 2 High School, confirmed that 2.5 is the school's second admission score. The school's first admission score was also only 9.5 points.

Explaining the sharp decrease in admission scores, Mr. Phu said that for the 2025-2026 school year, the school was assigned by the Nghe An Department of Education and Training to enroll 450 students for 10 grade 10 classes. However, there were only 419 applications to take the entrance exam to the school, so the enrollment target was adjusted to 400.

After the 10th grade entrance exam, some candidates changed their wishes, so there were a total of 442 applications. Therefore, Nam Dan 2 High School adjusted the enrollment target to 450. Because the number of applications was still less than the enrollment target, the school announced the second round of enrollment. "In this second round, there are 31 candidates who are eligible for admission," said Mr. Phu.

Previously, in the 2024-2025 school year, the benchmark score for grade 10 at Nam Dan 2 High School was only 13.2 points and 500 candidates passed the entrance exam out of a total of 720 applications.

Regarding this incident, a representative of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training said that the second round of enrollment of Nam Dan 2 High School is to ensure enough enrollment quota according to the assigned plan.

According to this person, the score of 2.5 is not the standard score applied to all candidates but is the lowest score in the group of students admitted in the second round. And in this second round of additional admission, there is 1 candidate who achieved 2.5 points while the rest of the students have higher scores.
