Continue to comprehensively develop traditional medicine

On July 4, the Ministry of Health held a national online conference on the results of 5 years of implementing Decision No. 1893 of the Prime Minister (issued on December 25, 2019) on the development of traditional medicine (TM). Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long attended the conference. At the Khanh Hoa provincial bridge, Mr. Nguyen Long Bien - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired.

At the conference, delegates heard about the achievements, as well as the limitations and difficulties in implementing Decision No. 1893 and the development orientation in the coming time. With the efforts of all levels and sectors, the work of traditional medicine in the past 5 years has achieved some encouraging achievements: The system of basic traditional medicine facilities has been invested and upgraded; the traditional medicine network at the grassroots health level has been increasingly consolidated and developed; medical examination and treatment services in the traditional medicine field are increasingly rich and diversified, and the quality is improved... However, most of the goals set out in the program have not been achieved. Specifically, at the provincial level, there are 61 traditional medicine hospitals (3% lower than the set target); 82% of general hospitals have traditional medicine departments and teams (8% lower than the target); the rate of communes implementing traditional medicine examination and treatment is 83.6% (12% lower than the target); The rate of medical examinations using traditional medicine combined with modern medicine accounts for 3.3% (lower than the target of 12%)...

In Khanh Hoa province alone, the traditional medicine examination and treatment system has been gradually improved, 100% of provincial and district general hospitals have traditional medicine departments; 85% of commune health stations have traditional medicine examination and treatment activities; 209 non-public traditional medicine practice facilities are operating stably...

In the coming time, the Ministry of Health will continue to comprehensively develop traditional medicine; strengthen the combination of traditional medicine with modern medicine; strengthen the management of the quality of medicinal herbs and traditional medicines; consolidate and develop the traditional medicine network and the Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long highly appreciated the results achieved by the health sector after 5 years of implementing Decision No. 1893 on the development of traditional medicine. Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directed that for the unachieved goals, the health sector and related ministries and sectors must have solutions to achieve them in the coming time. In particular, ministries and sectors must strongly innovate in thinking, have feasible solutions to improve the quality of traditional medicine; review documents related to traditional medicine to propose new appropriate constructions; train, build and plan human resources for traditional medicine; scientific research must bear the mark of traditional medicine in Vietnam. At the same time, it is necessary to upgrade and invest in a number of traditional medicine facilities suitable for the new situation; plan to build areas specializing in growing medicinal herbs in Vietnam and have a policy of linking businesses with growers to effectively carry out preservation and processing; There are promotion programs, trade and investment in YDCT...
